The Ultimate Vegas Show at Jupiters Casino
Dying to go to Vegas? Trust me when I say you can spend a fab night in Las Vegas without even getting a stamp in your passport… sans the jetlag! Magic, legendary musical greats, crazy amazing juggling, and Vegas showgirls (and boys!) will dazzle you into believing you’re in the middle of the Nevada desert in five minutes flat.
It all starts with Dean Martin. The spotlight circles in on his doppelganger (David Cotter) standing before the plush red curtain kissing the stage at his heels, for a taste of The King of Cool’s iconic big band style and sassy swing-like beats. “Everybody loves somebody sometimes…” I’m immediately transported to 1960s America, live band and all. So. Damn. Cool.
Then with a swish of the curtain, a parade of Vegas showgirls strut onto the stage in sparkling teeny weeny G-strings and gorgeous diamante-clustered bras, made all the more tiny by their huge feather headdresses and luscious fantails. High kicks, spins and ritzy moves ensue (how, with that costume, I have no clue), followed by a wardrobe change at the click of their manicured fingers.
From there, it’s a fashion-lovers dream ensemble of everything from sexy chokers, gloves and intricate headpieces to colourful dresses, skirts and even some cowgirl getup… oh, and more feathers and sparkling jewels. Every era from salsa, ballroom, ballet, rock’n’roll and swing come to life on the stage (the Copacabana outfit is to die for!). In between, Dean Martin reappears to sway the audience with his soothing soulful sounds, while the King of Rock’n’Roll himself, Elvis, amps the show up a notch (played by ‘Aussie Elvis’, Dean Vegas). He has a few fab iconic costume changes of his own!
But no Vegas show could possibly be ‘ultimate’ without a little magic. And thanks to Michael Boyd, who’s also the mastermind behind the whole show, I’m left cocking my head and wondering ‘how did he do that?’ for days. Women disappearing, rabbits appearing in hats and, you know, untangling cuffed wrists and magically escaping the firey box and then popping up in the middle of the audience… all that crazy stuff! You might even remember some of his tricks and illusions from Australia’s Got Talent 2013.

But the real show-stealer is no doubt the brilliant Romano Frediani, all the way from Vegas – like, the real Vegas! Who would have thought juggling could be so cool? He has the whole audience in awe and fits of laughter as he manoeuvres balls, rings and blocks with dance moves and hilarious lines. It leaves me thinking: ‘this guy is crazy!’ And he refuses to leave the stage until he catches all four rings (with his head!) in order, flung onto the stage by audience members. It’s a whole new type of magic.
Vegas is one of those desties that’s been slowly climbing up my list for years. And now that I’ve had a taste, I’m only left wanting more. Vegas is now rockin’ my number one spot! But until I can afford my dream holiday to the ‘entertainment capital of the world’, The Ultimate Vegas Show is a fine way to live the Vegas highlife, locally. After all, the rest of Jupiters Casino is just outside the theatre door, so you can go take the cocktails into the wee hours of the night in true ‘Sin City’ style!
The Ultimate Vegas Show runs at Jupiters Casino until the 1st of June, and right now it’s Vegas month! Get your tickets here.
