Top 5 bars in Singapore
I’ll be the first to admit I’m generally not a big drinker. Let’s be honest, Mr LML’s Grandma hits it harder than I do on an average weekend but when I go on holiday I like to indulge in a bevvy (or six) 😉 The beautiful thing about Singapore is that restaurants and bars are always open and full of people so the atmosphere is never dull.
Here are some tips on where to stop and what to drink next time you’re in Singapore (minus the cliché Raffles Singapore Sling).
Club St
Club St is my favourite place in Singapore for a drink; if you want atmosphere and a night that turns into morning, Club St is the place to be. Located next to the Financial District, Club St is a fun playground with literally every cuisine or bar to choose from. My top two would be Indochine and Los Primos.
Indochine is pure bliss. Completely decked out in Asian fusion décor including giant Buddhas, neon bamboo walls and water features, you’ll feel more sophisticated from the moment you walk in the door. Their list of cocktails is extensive and their Lychee Martini is a must.
Los Primos is a beautiful tapas bar that spills out onto the street. The lighting inside is quite bright so I suggest sitting outside. This position is not only excellent for people watching but also embracing the atmosphere of Club St. My drink of choice – the Sangria gets two thumbs up.
A special mention must go to Bartini for the cute name and extensive cocktail menu try their Planter’s Punch or if you’re a hardcore rum lover go for the Zombie.
Ditch Ku De Ta and go to Swissotel
If you want the best view of Singapore, you have to include MBS in the cityscape.
Equinox Restaurant gives you the absolute, ultimate view of Singapore. From the Singapore Eye all the way around to the Merlion. The food is nothing special, especially for the price you pay, but the view is spectacular. There are two other bars in the Swissotel that you can go to if you only want a drink. New Asia is a cool, dark bar while the Space Bar is a little more traditional with great shots of Singas. My drink of choice here is the D’Asti Moscato.
The Auld Alliance
This is a must do in Singapore. Not only is it decked out with a variety of malts but it’s also beautifully designed. Originally fitted out in Chimjes, a nunnery that was converted into an eating and drinking hub in the middle of town, The Auld Alliance has moved to the Rendezvous Hotel at the end of Orchard Road. Decked out like a regal study full of leather armchairs and hundreds of bottles lining the walls, it’s the ultimate in lunch time sips and late night nips. Be sure to have a couple of swigs next time you’re in Singapore.
Fullerton Bay Rooftop Bar – Fireworks
The Fullerton Bay is b-e-a-utiful! As one of the most stunning hotels in Singapore you can be sure it has a great bar. Not only does the bar overlook the pool but it is the number one position if you want to watch the MBS light show at night. With a decent cocktail list and only a short walk from the city, the Fullerton Bay Rooftop Bar is a winner for a quick drink before dinner. Be sure to take a leisurely walk through the lobby and hall before you get in the lift.

Green Door
My favourite for laid back drinks, Green Door is a new addition to the Dempsey Hill scene. Fittingly located behind a green door, guests walk down a quaint little garden path into what’s a very quirky, cool bar backing onto a wall made of suitcases. Make sure you take a trip to the bathroom and check out their super-cool bathroom sink conversion –double check which door you push though as the signs can be a little tricky to decode. All drinks are served in cute, eccentric little glasses – go for the Terrible Tyler’s Threesome, it’s the bomb diggity!
