Driving to the countryside always gives me a nostalgic feel, like I\u2019m off on a family road trip. So who better to take on a food and wine weekend in Mudgee, than my totally awesome mum.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

GPS switched on, coffee in hand, tunes on the radio, we hit the open road excited for our mother and daughter weekend of food, wine and country air. Ahhhh, we\u2019re relaxed already.<\/p>\n

Just a 3.5 hour drive from Sydney<\/a> is our destination: beautiful, chilled out Mudgee.<\/a> As a Mudgee first-timer, this cute little town makes a great first impression. It\u2019s one of those special places that \u00a0manages to blend country town vibes with incredible wineries, a sophisticated foodie scene and an eclectic arts culture. (More on that to come later)<\/p>\n

And while we love all of Mudgee, it\u2019s our accommodation that really tops it off.<\/p>\n

Enter Mudgee Homestead Guesthouse<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Just five minutes from town and set on 40 acres, this seven room, character filled guesthouse immediately relaxes us into \u2018Mudgee time\u2019.<\/p>\n

After our drive from Sydney, the gorgeous rooms at Mudgee Homestead are the perfect place to retreat to. Each has a slightly individual style, but all have that cute, cosy feel about them. The beds are ridiculously comfortable (which is a must on a country getaway).<\/p>\n\"MudgeeHomestead_Bedroom\"<\/a>\n

A perfect escape for us city slickers: there\u2019s no in-room TV\u2019s (although there is two tellies on site for anyone with desperate cravings), no traffic and no neighbours in sight. Just the sound of wildlife. And the kangaroos hopping across the property add to the \u2018away-from-it-all\u2019 vibe.<\/p>\n

The laid back owners of the homestead, Sean and Karen have designed the property so that guests feel \u2018at home\u2019, while still allowing for space and privacy from other guests.<\/p>\n

With seven rooms (all with ensuites) on offer, you can book out an individual room for two people, or book the whole place out with a group of friends (which would be a huge amount of fun!) Plus, for group bookings, Karen and Sean can organise a chef to come in and do four course dinner parties in the large dining room.<\/p>\n\"The<\/a>\n

Waking up to the peaceful sounds of wildlife and the magnificent view of the property is magical. Speaking of mornings at Mudgee Homestead, it\u2019s breakfast time!<\/p>\n\"BreakfastatMudgeeHomestead\"<\/a>\n

Not only do we get to eat breakfast with this view, the spread is simply to die for. I devour Karen\u2019s homemade savoury waffles with free range farm eggs, bacon, fresh tomatoes and feta, while mum loves the potato rosti, smoked salmon spinach and asparagus.<\/p>\n

At the opposite end of the day, the sunset at the homestead is incredible. We perch ourselves on one of the comfortable outdoor lounges with a chilled bottle of Logan Wine- it\u2019s bliss.<\/p>\n\"SunsetAtMudgeeHomestead\"<\/a>\n

Waking on Sunday morning, after one more delicious breakfast, a final walk and a \u2018farewell\u2019 to the roo\u2019s roaming around the property, mum and I reluctantly bid our farewell to Mudgee Homestead Guesthouse. Filled with lots of laughter, very full stomachs and feeling totally relaxed.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
