  • Staycation nation: Adelaide is the number one Australian city for a staycation

    According to lastminute.com.au many Australian holiday-makers are such avid fans of their own city, they don’t actually leave it when they take a break.

    The lastminute.com.au research* reveals Aussies like nothing better than splashing out on a cheeky hotel stay in their own backyard, with 40% of people having booked a staycation in their own city.  

    Adelaideans are most likely to book a hotel staycation in their own city, followed by those from Perth and Sydney. By way of contrast, people from the Nation’s capital, Canberra, are the least likely to opt to stay in their home city when taking a break.

    lastminute.com.au travel expert, Kate Norris commented that Adelaide has all of the features of a fantastic inner city stay and there’s no wonder locals don’t want to leave. 

    "From the good food and wine, to small laneway bars, the art scene, beaches, luxe CBD hotels, Adelaide locals have clearly figured out they don’t need to fly interstate anymore to have their inner city hotel fix or romantic weekend away”.

    According to lastminute.com.au travel expert Kate Norris, there is a strong demand for staycations generally, with the most popular reasons being to enjoy a romantic escape, and playing tourist in your own city.

    “A spontaneous decision to book a staycation is also an awesome way to add some spice into a relationship, play tourist in your own town, or make the most of a Friday night in the city without the stress of lining up for a taxi ride back to the suburbs”.

    Why have Aussies booked staycations:

    · To attend an event in the inner city: 32%

    · To make the most of the weekend: 31%:
