Really enjoyed my stay at the Clayton Hotel in Amsterdam. The building is beautiful, full of character, and the location is absolutely spot on! everything you could want is just a short walk (or tram ride) away. We were pleasantly surprised with a complimentary room upgrade, which set the tone for a great stay. The room was large, clean and really comfortable! and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout, a real standout. A couple of things worth mentioning: the Chromecast in the room didn’t seem to want to connect to any devices (a small thing, but a shame when you’re hoping to unwind), and laundry services were on the pricier side. All in all, a great stay in a beautiful spot. Would definitely return!!

As a fan of architecture and history, staying at the Clayton Hotel was a treat. The building is gorgeous and still radiates the grandeur of its past. However, as an architect and designer, I noticed several areas that could be improved to elevate the experience. The hotel, last renovated in 2007, would benefit from an updated HVAC system. The air quality suffers from lingering smoke odor, damp carpets, and aged finishes. As a former smoker, I found the bar especially difficult to enjoy due to the embedded cigarette smell in the upholstery. A modern filtration and dehumidification system is essential—and perhaps, afterward, a signature scent could enhance the space. Room doors slam shut loudly and would benefit from soft-close hardware to improve sleep quality. The gym is small, poorly ventilated, and not suited for stretching or yoga. Converting a meeting room into a brighter, quieter space for those activities could be a great solution. The café and bar menus feel dated, stuck in the 1980s. A refresh would better match the vibrancy of the city and the location. That said, the hotel’s location is excellent—perfect for walking, transit, shopping, and dining. Our room had a beautiful view of Amsterdam, and the umbrella rental system was a thoughtful touch. Most memorable of all was the service: the staff were kind, efficient, and helpful throughout our stay. We left wanting to return. Thank you.

Centrally located. Transportation easily accessible. Near shops and dining. Walkable to major attractions. Hotel lobby very attractive and the rooms nicely laid out with good amenities. The staff were all exceptional- perfect ! …except for the restaurant where they could barely be bothered to seat us and throw a menu at us- we left as there are many good options close by. Bar had good service tho. Walls are thin so noise does travel but staff were highly responsive in dealing with excessive noise quickly and diplomatically. Highly recommend this property!

Nice clean hotel. Easy tram ride from Amsterdam Centraal Station. There is a canel cruise kiosk directly outside the entrance. Short walk across the street to an area full of shops, bars and restaurants.

I would love to give this hotel a higher rating - the staff were so friendly, the location was great, sizeable rooms for Amsterdam and a great restaurant and bar on the main floor. However the second the sun when down the music would start. I don’t know if it was coming from the bar, or other rooms but it would play until 6am. It wasn’t the same source of music the whole time it would stop and start from different areas but I could hear it clearly and even earplugs wouldn’t stop me from hearing the thumping of the base. If there wasn’t music playing, there were drunk people screaming and laughing outside. I had some of the worst sleeps I have ever had here so unfortunately I can only give this hotel 3 stars.

Excellent stay at the Clayton. Location is fantastic. Easy access (walking) to museums and to tram system. Lots of restaurants near by and great patio around the corner with multiple bars. Only down size is the noise on Friday and Saturday from the people enjoying life will keep you up.

We loved staying here. But the room has no drawers or luggage racks and the lighting was not quite as good as it could be. The bed was very comfortable and we loved the restaurant…everything we had was quite delicious…a little heavy on the cream, but their side veggies and salads were quite good. There were two small windows on either side of sloping interior roof that also made the room a bit dark and our view looked out on the roof…also there wasn’t really a table to sit and eat in the room. Location was perfect. Trams right out front. And our room, even tho close to the elevator, was remarkably quiet.

The ammenities were very nice and well thought out. We were able to get in a little early which was truly appreciated. The breakfast is incredible- highly recommend adding to your stay. The room and the view was fantastic. Close to everything we wanted to do and right next to a fantastic canal tour.
