Good value but not perfect...
Overall, the Ocean Beach Hotel provides good value for money, except for the high daily parking charge for residents.
The reception, restaurant and house keeping staff we interacted with were all polite, helpful and efficient.
Our room rate included breakfast and dinner. The food was very good generally and especially the fish dishes, although a few dishes had a tad too much garlic and we had a fire breathing chilli con carne one evening.
Use of the facilities in the neighbouring Suncliff and Cumberland hotels is a good point.
We stayed in a room which had been refurbished (it was not clear how long ago). However, the standard of workmanship was very poor with paint splashes on the wallpaper, headboard, mirror, tiles and switches, and most fittings were secured wonkily. These give an impression that the work was done on the cheap.
Finally, the radiators in the third floor corridors were on throughout our stay which made them and the rooms very warm most of the time. Ours had a large desk fan to help cool it.
Our expectations of the hotel were not high but we would probably stay there again given the good value it provides and pleasant staff.
