Room was good, also the Breakfast

I would not recommend Hotel Østersø. We arrived in Aabenraa for a 4-night stay for 4 guests in 2 rooms, costing nearly $900, and the property was nothing like what we expected from a functioning hotel. The building looked abandoned and poorly maintained, with broken glass near the front entrance/parking area. It did not feel safe or suitable for guests. There appeared to be no other customers there, and the property lacked basic hotel facilities and atmosphere. The condition of the building made us extremely uncomfortable, especially since we were traveling as a group and expected a clean, safe place to stay. This was not a normal situation where we simply changed our minds; we could not reasonably stay somewhere that felt unsafe and neglected. We immediately contacted Expedia for help and a refund, but the hotel refused to waive the cancellation policy. In my opinion, a cancellation policy should not apply when the accommodation itself is unsafe, not properly maintained, and not provided as advertised. This experience caused major stress, wasted time, and left us scrambling to find another place to stay. Guests deserve honest listings and safe accommodations. Based on what we experienced, I would strongly avoid this hotel.

The room was very clean and the staff were exceptionally courteous and friendly throughout my stay. The room itself was a bit on the small side, and the walls between rooms are quite thin, so you can hear your neighbors. Breakfast was okay but fairly basic, nothing particularly memorable. Overall, I found the hotel somewhat overpriced, but it seems to be one of the better options available when staying in Aabenraa.

Prided for being the oldest hotel in Denmark, you can feel its history the moment you step into the lobby, with its charming period furnishings. If you want a true taste of history, this is the place to stay. The rooms are adequate and warm, though ours had a rather slanted floor. The location is excellent.. right next to the cathedral and at the start of Ribe’s old street, two of the town’s main attractions. A small hiccup during check-in: there was no one at reception, and calls to the provided number went unanswered, which meant we couldn’t access the private parking. Breakfast, however, was fantastic, with a nice variety of options.

The room could've been better with a double bed, but other than that there was nothing wrong with the place. It was perfectly located near the train station.
