If you fancy a day trip, the volcano Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe, is within easy reach. On the coast you will find the ancient city of Taormina, which was visited by Goethe in the 18th century and described in his Italian Journey. Here you can visit the ancient Greek theatre, many old churches, lively bars, fine restaurants and antique shops.
