The management describe it as a modern day coaching in and that is a good description.
The staff were lovely, and the breakfast was first rate.
If I have any gripe is about the bathroom. I hit my head on the low ceiling a couple of times and there was a bath with a hand held shower attachment but no shower curtain and the ow ceiling meant I couldn’t stand to use it.
There was a very loud noise that kept occurring for a minute or so a few times while I was in my room. Plus I couldn't stand in the bath to have a shower as the ceiling is too low - I am short!
Bed was comfortable. Shower in bath was laughable. I had to kneel to shower I am 5ft. No chance for husband as he over 6ft. Dust on shelves downstairs in eating and bar area cat roaming in restaurant jumping up on tables. Food needs to be looked at.
Room was absolutely fine for one. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Fish and chips was very nice. Breakfast was great - probably too big! I’ll book again definitely.
An older property nice outside space. Good food menu.

Poor
The building itself was interesting and nice grounds.
Food was awful..at least three quarter's of an hour wait for v mediocre food for pm meal. We ate out the next night
Breakfast...no bacon available. Scambled egg looked shocking.
The 2 staff in the bar did their best but not enough folk in kitchen or bar.
Would not recommend it

Lovely hotel near Cambridge with a railway station nearby
The staff were very helpful and friendly and welcomed us on our arrival
Brett and his team are all doing a great job in a friendly and professional manner
The food was good with a different but adequate menu
Lovely dated property that is very welcoming with friendly helpful staff.
The bed was two beds put together but when you see the size of the corridors it explains why. We both slept really well and had no problems with it.
Only criticism would be the bathroom. It was a bit tired and was showing signs of needing an upgrade.
The pub is mainly directed to the food side of the business, which we couldn’t blame them, but was still a nice place for a pint or two. The food was excellent and well priced.
We would definitely stay again.
Dirty rooms, blood on bedding and burn markings! rooms desperate need of updating.
Food is terrible and over priced. Not enough staff and chef was outside my room swearing and shouting at the top of his voice during a discussion he was having. Not ideal when children are with us!
Music on seriously loud from the kitchen until gone midnight, keeping us awake.
Do not stay here if you like comfort and cleanliness. I am not a critic usually and don’t bother with reviews as it’s subjective and wouldn’t want to sway anyone away from staying at hotels, but I couldn’t not review this hotel. Please spend your money elsewhere!! Just awful!!
I like that:
- It’s near this neat old church, for starters.
- it has a quaint old English world feel to it, something I’d hoped to experience while here in England for the 1st (& very likely, not my last) time
- it has very good service from the workers.
Next time, I’ll organize my tour of the university better & when I do, just guess where I’ll be staying ;)
A really nice clean big room friendly staff and a good breakfast

We went to stay to be near a family occasion and found this to be a good value for money. There are a number of minor issues where a socket didn’t seem to work, a party which carried on to midnight we didn’t know about and the bar closing early on a Sunday, but the people were very helpful and friendly and the food for breakfast was excellent and gluten-free. Parking is limited but they are planning on expanding that so if that’s important you need to know. in terms of sustainability it’s a 400 year-old building so full marks for that, otherwise didn’t seem to be a priority.
