Holidays in City Centre

All of us know that travel is life. So pull out your suitcase, hug your nanna goodbye and set off to City Centre! A Canberra neighbourhood, it's a great base for discovering this buzzing city's sights. The capital of Australia is home to around 370,000 people. Don't be shy to get out and make friends with a few of them! From Canberra International Airport, City Centre is about 6 kilometres to the northwest. If you're arriving from the city centre, you'll find the suburb 0.4 kilometres to the north.

This city is filled with glorious things to do, and many of them are found near City Centre. It's no simple task to pick the top sights, but Parliament House and the Australian War Memorial are two you shouldn't miss out on. Don't forget to put the National Gallery of Australia and the National Museum of Australia on your checklist too. For a better perspective of this lively city as a whole, spend some time in the close-by neighbourhoods of Canberra and Reid.

Need some advice on things to do in the city centre? Two sensational places to start are the National Zoo and Aquarium and Telstra Tower. Alternatively, have a wander around Old Parliament House and the Australian National Botanic Gardens.

While you can see more and more art on the internet these days, there's nothing quite like looking at the real thing. Check out the area's creative side by visiting the Canberra Museum and Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery.

There's no knowing what you're going to find among the fascinating exhibits at the Questacon, the Museum of Australian Democracy, the National Film & Sound Archive and Canberra Railway Museum. If you don't want to miss a thing, see if you can hop on a guided tour.

The fairways of the Royal Canberra Golf Club and the Federal Golf Club are calling. Perfect your swing, challenge some friends to a few rounds and try to drop some strokes off your game.

Kids are often marvellous travel mates, particularly if you take them to fun places! For an entertaining family day out, take a trip to the National Library of Australia, the Royal Australian Mint and the Canberra Merry-Go-Round.

Few things can still the mind like the sights, sounds and smells of the natural world. Immerse yourself in it at Mount Ainslie, Dalhousie Mound Springs, Arkaroo Rock and Jerrabomberra Wetland.

Get you heart pumping at a nearby reserve, such as Cotter Reserve and Canberra Nature Park. Bring a decent camera to snap pictures of the native flora and fauna.

A delightful feature of this suburb is its nearby public parks. Among the hustle and bustle, you won't struggle to find somewhere to take a short walk or read a book. City Hill, Glebe Park, King's Park and Commonwealth Park are some good options.

Quite often, the best way to get to know the locals is by walking around the shops. Don't forget to call in to Canberra Centre, Kingston Shopping Centre, Manuka Shopping Centre and Kingston Mall.

The Albert Hall, High Court of Australia, the Australian-American War Memorial and the National Carillon have many tales to tell. History geek or not, you'll definitely find out something at these age-old sites.

Whether you want to learn more about the region's customs and traditions or just soak up the beautiful surroundings, head to Greek Orthodox Church of St Nicholas, Canberra Baptist Church, the Canberra Mosque and Wattle Park Uniting Church.
