outdated property, most of the furniture needs update, food options are very limited and no quality at all, staff don’t know much english and there is always a miss communication. sewage smell in room gave me headache, hot water in shower needs a good 15 minutes run before you use shower, rooms are very clean but towels are old. maintenance is slow, elevator didn’t work for a day and half and our room was on 6 floor! I didn’t enjoy my stay here.

Great property with a nice private beach, great gift shop and a very lively lobby which always had something fun going on every night like karaoke or a pianist. The lobby bar was fun with great staff and quick service. The beach bar was nice with decent drinks. The pool was nice, however be prepared, its not heated, very few people in pool, considering we traveled in January. The three restaurants looked nice however we could only get reservations for one night due to being all booked up. When you make the reservations, they do try and sell you on going to another Occidental property to discuss a vacation package. We told them upfront we were not interested so surprisingly enough we only were able to make one reservation for dinner. I suspect if you do the vacation tour, you’ll probably get reservations to all 3 restaurants, but that’s just an assumption. Another nice feature is at night, they have artisan shops set up on the property where you can purchase local art and jewelry. The buffet breakfast was OK, it was better for breakfast than it was for lunch. All the staff we encountered were super friendly and we really enjoyed this property and definitely would recommend.

My recent check-in experience at a resort in Cancun was a series of disappointments and upsetting interactions, particularly with the front desk staff. I arrived with another group of friends, and we had requested to be placed in rooms close to each other. However, they placed our group in separate locations—our friends on the 3rd floor and us on the 2nd floor. To make matters worse, the room originally assigned to us had a strong, unbearable odor of paint that caused us physical discomfort, including headaches. We had to practically beg the staff to move us to a different room, which they begrudgingly did, placing us next door to our friends after initially claiming that no accommodations could be made. Unfortunately, the rudeness and lack of hospitality from the staff set the tone for the remainder of our stay. Once we settled into the new room, there were still basic necessities missing, like washcloths. When we requested them, we were told to come to the front desk instead of having them delivered to the room. It rained heavily during our stay, and the hallways began to reek of sewer, adding to the unpleasant environment. The worst part, however, was the blatant disrespect and what felt like discriminatory behavior from the staff throughout our stay. As Black women, we often felt ignored or treated with less priority compared to other guests. There are 2 Occidental hotels in the hotel zone. One has a beach where you can walk for miles and has crashing waves to play in. The other one has 50 feet of beach, is land locked, has a view of a shipping lane, has 2.5 feet of calm water roped off so you can’t venture too far into the shipping lane. If you book the wrong one, too bad, too sad. To be fair if you don’t like to walk or swim this hotel is fine. They have very nice employees, but the employees are helpless to help you change your reservation to the other hotel. I was prepared to pay for the other hotel and still couldn’t get help. You are not allowed to actually talk to a person who could help you, you must email them, and then wait for the non-existing response. They got your money, the share holders are happy, so who cares.

Small but good! Not too busy - very friendly staff. If going at a busier time of year it might not be as ideal with the space. We went mid January and it was perfect. The Mexican restaurant was great.

Overall the property was very good. However, the Air Conditioner in our room did mot work. Reported it twice and then just lived with it. Food and drink was good to excellent. The one thing I would add is a top level liquor option.
