Heather Cottage, Creeslough, Co Donegal. F92 F853
Heather cottage is located 2 miles from Creeslough village on Donegal's Wild Atlantic Way, a short walk from Carrick Lake with the surrounding countryside dominated by the majestic Muckish Mountain, and a few kilometers further west in the county you will find Errigal mountain, both mountains are very popular with hillclimbers. Glenveagh National Park & Castle, visitors centre with Nellie's Restaurant is well worth a visit (10 min drive through Donegal hills). We are 10 min from the Donegal Boardwalk Resort & restaurant and fabulous beach (you will see a sign for this resort on the left hand side of the road enroute to Carrigart/Downings).
Nestled in an inlet of Sheephaven Bay, 5km from Heather Cottage, surrounded by the wild waters of the Atlantic, stands Doe Castle. The fortress was built in the 1420s. For almost 200 years it served as home, refuge and bastion for at least 13 MacSweeney chiefs – some of whom were party and witness to the most seismic events of Irish history. Well worth a visit. The grounds of the castle are open all year round.
Our location is quiet & peaceful with beautiful scenery in the surrounding area. An ideal location to go for a stroll in the countryside or a short drive takes you to various beaches like Marble Hill, Ards Forest Park, Ards Friary - Lucky shell beach, Tramore, Atlantic drive & Downings (10 min drives takes you to all beaches) to name but a few with a range of sports like kayaking, wind surfing & horse riding at some of these beaches.
Heather Cottage is an ideal central base for guests who wish to visit various places in the north west, we're situated half way between the villages of Creeslough & Carrigart/Downings (15 min drive) and the scenic Atlantic Drive around the Downings peninsula. Further on past Carrigart village, about one mile, you can turn off to the Fanad peninsula and you can continue on for about a 15 min drive & visit the Fanad Lighthouse - open to the public now. Also in the Fanad peninsula you have the stunning Knockalla Drive which takes you into the seaside town of Rathmullan. There is also a ferry running during the summer from Rathmullan to Buncrana, in the Inishowen Peninsula. Speaking of ferry's it is also possible to visit the Islands off the Donegal Coast, ie. Arranmore Island and Tory Island, by ferry (during the summer season), very popular with guests.
There is a solid fuel stove in the living room of the Holiday Home plus a smart TV.
Fully equipped kitchen with electric oven, air fryer, dishwasher, microwave, and a utility room with washing machine, tumble drier, iron & ironing board.
Oil fired central heating is included.
Electricity is payable by metre €1 or €2. We supply 2 coins when we are checking in the guests and we show them how the metre works.
There is 3 bedrooms, which sleeps 6 people - 2 rooms with one double bed in each room and one room with 2 single beds. Bed linen & towels are provided. Hairdriers supplied.
The bathroom has a toilet, hand basin and a bath with a shower over the bath.
Free WIFI for guests.
Pets (2 max) allowed.
