Mixed Stay - Don't stay here on Saturday!!

Really bad experience here on one night - very good on another. The problem here is that they book weddings - fair enough, but it should not affect guests that pay good money for a peaceful stay. We did not get this - noise from wedding guests (children and adults shouting in foyer and loud music until 3am). Complained 3 times. As a result we got up late, but not so late according to their advertised breakfast time (until 11am, we were there at 1040). There was literally nothing left except some bread and fruit. Had to ask for everything and the staff couldn't provide much of anything. Such a long queue for the coffee machine that had run out of milk. Staff cleared away our coffee that we left on a table with juice while we tried to get some toast - you couldn't make it up. The manager wasn't available all weekend either in person or on the phone and we were offered very little in the way of compensation - pretty pathetic to be honest. Monday was such an utterly different experience - quiet, great breakfast etc. This hotel really needs to respect the needs of guests when there are events. The reception staff were super lovely and tried to do their best, but the lack of manager on an event weekend is really poor in my opinion.

In a beautiful area with a castle near by, seems very deceiving to market a hotel as if it is located in the castle compound or is any type of castle itself. It was nice but it was not what we expected. Like staying inn the suburbs when you think you are going to the big city. If you want clean and safe, beautiful and nice English speaking people, this is a great choice.

We stayed for 6 nights,our room was clean the staff visited everday wuth ckean towels etc. Lots of choice at breakfast but the cooked section wasnt great, even if you was there early the eggs were overcooked cold and greasy, bacon not great. All other food was lovely, croissants were beautiful.

On arrival our room was overlooking the car park so we decided to upgrade at the cost of €45 per night. Our new room had great views and lots more space. Breakfast wasn’t great. I asked for eggs on the second morning and after waiting 20 mins they came out cold. Not sure why.

perfect romantic getaway

We were looking for a nice short romantic break and found it at Nh Castellar Hotel. The Hotel was luxurious and very accommodating. Staff were friendly and helpful. All our needs were met with a positive attitude and all hotel amenities were substantial. The pool and spa area were exquisite as well as the restaurant food. The Hotel location is well sign posted. It is built within beautiful surroundings. The Town of Castellar itself is rather tranquil and has many good restaurants and cafeteria/bars within the area. The Town is just a stone throw away from the Hotel, therefore no transportation is needed as it is a nice enjoyable walk to and from these locations.

Could do better

NH Hotels are generally clean, comfortable with decent facilities. However, given the location of this hotel with few opportunities within walking distance of other restaurants the standard of evening meals was poor -the food (for Spain) was bland, minimal and expensive for what you got. This hotel doesn't have the advantages of city centres and although the nearby Castellar fortress and nearby towns/countryside are worth visiting NH could do better in making this offer better value in terms of food.

Pleasantly surprised

Polite, friendly and helpful staff. The hotel atmosphere was very peaceful and the interior was beautiful. Worth a visit even if it is not on the main road. There were numerous quiet enclosed areas like an enclosed forecourt with a well designed garden and chairs and tables so you can sit and enjoy a drink whilst listening to the water fountain. Internet access in all areas. Rooms are not too big but sufficient. (We had a standard room). Bathroom looked very new, was well equipped and of a proper size.

NH Castellar de La Frontera

Fantastic place!! What a lovely, modern hotel. We stayed for two nights and the price was extremely reasonable, including breakfast. The breakfast is a feast and in a beautiful restaurant. The hotel itself is in the new Castellar not the old one, which is way up the hill, not possible to walk. However close to the hotel in the new town are typical spanish bars and restaurants with wondeful tapas and riojas! If you like noise, nightlife and non-spanish food, do not come here but if you want a fantastic, beautiful setting with great access to lots of hilltop villages..this is the place for you!!

El Hotel es muy bonito, elegante y comodo, todo muy ordenado y limpio, el personal super simpaticos y atentos, quizas en algunas cosas un poco fuera de lugar el precio, pero la relajacion en la estancia la tienes segura, ademas que esta en una zona tranquila de castellar

Highlight among hotels

This hotel was our holiday's highlight! Relaxing environment , thoughtful design , beautiful and almost meditative mood .You can always find different places to relax. The food divine , you certainly do not need to look for alternatives ! Staff dedicated and highly personal, we did not want to leave!
