Something a little bit different
Very grand hotel in a lovey setting. Bedrooms are very clean but rather old fashioned. Dinner was lovely, I found the food a breakfast limited.
Overall an enjoyable stay and would visit again if in the area
1 night stay as part of a longer holiday. Stayed previously at the Cally Palace and had a great stay.
The room was well appointed in a quiet area of the hotel and was very comfortable with views towards the woods at the rear of the hotel.
We had an evening meal which was very enjoyable, our table being close to an open log fire.
The hotel is located 5 minutes from the A75 but is far enough away that there is no noise from passing traffic.
The breakfast was good, there being plenty of choice and the staff were friendly and helpful.
Overall we enjoyed our stay and will return for future visits.
Very disappointed with this venue, we had picked this venue for a potential wedding venue for myself and my partner but numerous bad points has made our decision easy to write off this venue on our shortlist
Swimming pool was freezing, jacuzzi wasn’t in use and food was terrible for a fussy eater. Didn’t effect our stay as we enjoyed lovely walks around the grounds and some quiet time away. Rooms are terribly outdated and basic tv which had interference on most channels.

Good
Good hotel. Service staff are good. Hotel little dated and we had an issue with our room which they sorted in the end
We had a lovely stay at Cally Palace. Very close to Gatehouse of Fleet and near lots of great walks. The reception room and grounds were lovely - the bedroom and swimming pool area were a bit tired.
The food in the restaurant was fantastic and staff were great. We got a great deal so good value for money.
The deluxe room No 74 was disappointing as the size was very large but no thought has been given to layout of the available room. It would appear that the standard double would have exactly the same furniture and be much cosier so you have ended up spreading furniture around the room rather than see the space as an opportunity and create an attractive seating area.
TV screen was very small and some distance from the couch so comes back to point above.
There was no place within the shower to put soaps /shower bottles etc
The room was nice and warm and bed comfy and ensuite worked well
We arrived and were greeted by a lovely lady on reception nothing was too much trouble for her. The room was huge, we stayed in the forest wing with lovely balcony. Was easy to get to the pool and loved the robes in the room but was missing the slippers but we had sliders with us so wasn’t too big of a deal. Leisure facilities were lovely to use but hot tub is leaking badly and let’s the look of the place down. We stayed one night and decided to get room service and was overcharged at checkout. I asked on the phone when I ordered if the prices were the same on the website and I was told they were. When we given the bill from a miserable receptionist, no “did you enjoy your stay” “was everything ok” nothing. It really spoiled the stay, she told me the menu hadn’t been updated online and just continued to repeat this. No apology or offer to look into it further just told me the card machine is over there. Such a shame as the previous receptionist was so lovely. Breakfast was nice but not without faults. Continental was nice and good choice but cooked breakfast was strange, scramble egg was an odd flavour, black pudding was spongy seemed undercooked, no potato scone but a hash brown stuck on without anyone mentioning it. Style over substance as it was nicely presented. Could be great but a member of staff soured the experience for me
A 2 night stay, part of a longer vacation. Tucked away in spacious grounds in a quiet area, yet still easily accessible with the A75 nearby.
The staff were very friendly and helpful on our smooth check in. The hotel itself was a grand old building set in spacious grounds, with its own golf course and plenty of woodland walks, and a 3 mile walk to the beach.
The rooms were spacious and comfortable, well appointed and clean.
We enjoyed an evening meal, the food and staff were very good. Breakfast was a bit hit and miss. A good selection of fresh fruit and cereal and juices. But the buffet hot breakfast was a little disappointing. Some of it had obviously been out for a while and was cold.
We are familiar with the area so it was a good base for exploring. There is good walking and cycling in the Galloway forest. Plenty of beaches to discover nearby. The area is also a Dark Park and on a clear night the starry sky is quite impressive.
Overall we had a very good time and will return.
Bedroom poorly heated. As a Raynauds sufferer quite uncomfortable. Breakfast very disappointing . Trays of food not replenished frequently enough and eggs rubbery and overcooked
Fantastic stay at a wonderful location sadly let down to a degree by breakfast. Despite being down over half an hour before breakfast ended the selection of food had not and was not replenished no bread, no sausages however eventually a few eggs appeared. Staff appeared very reluctant to ensure a good breakfast choice was available.
Really disappointed by this hotel, while the grounds and scenery surrounding the hotel are really lovely, the inside of the hotel particularly, the forest wing where we were staying was extremely dated. There was rust and mould in the bathroom and the balcony really needed some TLC.
While the bed and pillows were really comfortable the sound proofing was non existent , we could hear absolutely everything from the room above us, which spoiled our stay and woke us up.
Unfortunately I would never stay here again
The reception staff were nice and we checked in without any issues. When entering the room, we were greeted by mold removing spray and the room carpet looked dirty (both not great as we had a toddler with us). The room size was good and the laundry appeared to be clean. There were a few H&S issues on site including missing fire action notices, large gaps in the stairwell balustrades (well over 100mm) meaning a toddler or dog could fall through and potentially be harmed (no cautionary signage evident). The balcony railing was not secured fully and there was also no fire emergency egress plan in our room which is best practice (just a description provided). There appeared to be not enough emergency escape signage (white running man with green back ground pictogram). There were also some combustible materials found on escape routes. Most of the staff were pleasant, but one of the barmen was rude to my wife and a member of the reception team made another member of our party feel extremely embarrassed about their disability. Staff training around disability awareness and unconscious bias would be appropriate. The pool area appeared clean enough but appeared a bit tired and will require refurbishment soon.
