Everything was amazing! The check in and valet processes were smooth and the complimentary cocktail was a great touch. I don’t typically go to a hotel’s bar, but the cocktail was so good that I had to check it out. Not only was the bartender attentive and kind, she also makes a killer drink! The interior design was also breathtaking and has made me consider redoing a few rooms in my home! There are so many amazing things about the Palmetto, but these parts all stood out to me.

Amenities. For the price of this boutique style hotel I don't feel like we got the best bang for our buck. We were in room 411 which had a displeasing smell immediately upon entering the room. Also it was right next to 4, yes 4 parked housekeeping staff carts. This was very unappealing, not very romantic, and unfortunately was very loud especially in the morning. We could also hear the staff delightfully caring on, at least they were cheerful and laughing. Also the room had stained carpets and the chair to lounge in was also stained. Our toilet would not flush in this room as well. So every time we used the toilet we had to manually open the lid and pull the float, to actually flush... every time. In the morning we were gretted by silver fish bugs running all over the bathroom floor. We killed three. They're harmless and Charleston is old, but while were here, so were they. The hallway carpet was quite stained as well. Bedding could be thicker, or an extra blanket as it was very thin duvet, and and quite cold outside at a chilly 35°. It could be an adorable place if a few things would be taken care of. The drinks were very good at the bar, and a very nice bartender. There was a nice little continental breakfast spread and a welcome cocktail, that was a nice touch. The Valet was wonderful and kind, and fast. especially in the moment.

After talking to the GM, I considered not posting a public review. However, I feel that it’s important to share experiences to help others make a eise decision when spending over $400 a night for a luxury experience. First, when I called the hotel the day of check in, I got a voicemail 3 times. I left a voicemail. I got no call back. When we arrived at the hotel, the lady working the front desk was efficient but she was not friendly. I don’t need a Disney experience but I do expect a certain level of customer service to be provided for the rate this hotel is priced at. When we entered the room, there was mold on the air vent above the bed & mold on the drywall. The film in the shower was lifting and peeling off. The carpet was dirty and stained which could have easily been steam cleaned. The clock did not work (even after I reset the clock). When I woke up in the morning, the room was 64 degrees and the heat did not work. I’ve emailed with the GM and I was offered a discount for our issues. Also, the complimentary breakfast includes yogurt, pastries, grits/toppings and hard boiled eggs. There was no meat provided. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel as it appears regular maintenance is not a priority. I work in the long term rental business & I’m aware routine maintenance can mean loss of revenue if a room is unavailable to be occupied. I appreciate the GM assured me the above issues were addressed.But I would suggest looking into a variety of other choices in the area.
