Whether this is on the hotel or third party, still insane. We were told that if you are “local” you have to pay a $200 cash deposit. I could not find this stated on the website, in fact it specifically says this hotel does not take cash payments. I’m not sure if the third party should be in charge of fixing this, or if the hotel needs to get in contact with them to fix this. We were also given conflicting information when we arrived. After telling us it was $200, he said he was actually $500 but was doing us this favor. I also asked if local just meant anywhere in CO and we were told yes, but when we said we lived in Denver and had a license to show it, that was not considered local. I’m not sure if it was just miscommunication, but it was confusing and not helpful. Someone needs to fix this information asap, especially because if you don’t get the cash you don’t get a refund on the room.

Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good, but no protein. Parking was easy but loved how close restaurants and shopping were to the hotel. The Animas River was close enough to walk to and loved hearing and seeing the train go by (close enough to enjoy, but not so close that it was loud and disruptive).

We booked this as a place to stay for a night after I had just gotten out of the hospital in Durango. We walked into the room and the smell of chemical cleaning products was overwhelming. Even my husband got nauseous and a headache. The front desk gal was very nice and would have refunded us if we hadn't booked through hotels.com (The booking was non-refundable.) She even offered for us to see a room in another building that a different cleaning lady cleaned. Unfortunately, the place was dark and old and just not welcoming. We opted to find another hotel. We should have just spent the extra $40 in the first place, instead of wasting $86 on a room we couldn't use and having to get another room at another hotel. Ugh. When are hotels going to learn that chemical cleaning product smell does not equal clean, it equals toxic!

Staff was amazing and kind! They all had a great attitudes and communication was great. I now see this location as a perfect spot for a quick/last minute weekend getaway. Definitely remembering this place next time !
