The Jungle lodge was the ideal location to explore Tikal from. Located just inside the admission area for the park proper, it was less than a 5 minute walk to gain entry. I'm willing to give the place some leeway, given its location, but I'm also happy I was only there 1 night. Every member of staff I encountered were helpful and patient. The room was clean if simple. The atmosphere of the hotel, nestled in between the trees of the jungle, made you feel really immersed. There's really no signage or direction indicating how to get to the hotel. You're left working through language differences to find your room. The bed was 'board of wood' stiff. There was just no way to get comfortable on it. The bathroom was on a septic system that I managed to immediately clog. The shower was a dribble of water that only came out scalding hot. My shower consisted of jumping in an out as quickly could to try an rinse off. The plumbing issues might have been chalked up to "rustic ambiance" except I realized that the restaurant, not 100 feet away had proper flush toilets and sinks that operated perfectly normal, so the plumbing exists to give that to the rooms. The restaurant is expensive for meh food. But the only alternatives involve leaving through the entrance and walking over to the comida area with its small food vendors. In the end, I'm not sure the cons outweigh the convenience of the location, but they could do so much more to make the stay more comfortable.

An Oasis in the Jungle

A beautiful setting in the jungle serenaded by howler monkeys. First class staff take very good care of all your needs. Shuttle service was very efficient.

The jungle Lodge is a great option for touring around Tikal . The lodge itself is very nice. With a small movie theatre where they show documentaries a nice little bar and a small pool. The problem is when you get to your hotel room. There was four of us and they provided us with two very small beds that were lopsided. The room is very hot and the fan turns off in the middle of night which makes it pretty hard to sleep. We were there for two nights and had to eat at the restaurant quite a bit and would’ve appreciative much more vegetarian options.

Stayed here so that way we wouldn’t have to drive far to see the ruins. Very clean and beautiful property! The staff was SO kind and helpful. The food was delicious! The rooms were beautiful and comfortable. There is no WiFi which for me personally felt nice to unplug and enjoy nature.

Lodge is great. Very accessible to Tikal entrance. They didn’t tell us that cut off power every couple hours - which is problem for people who need cpap to sleep. We did the sunrise tour - was amazing. But they don’t provide flashlights and had to use phones to hike in the dark.

Property was better than expected. The restaurant had good food and drinks, even though more expensive prices than local food obviously. My kids have multiple food allergies and they were able to accommodate with substitutions on the menu easily.

Excellent base for Tikal

We were staying for just one night to see Tikal. On arrival there was a friendly welcome and although we were early our room was ready. We were given a welcome drink which we really appreciated. The hotel is perfectly situated for seeing the ruins, and it takes around just 30 minutes to walk to the Grand Plaza. Don't forget to buy the entry tickets at the gate. The hotel has a beautiful reception area with plenty of seating, a games room which shows a film about Tikal, a bar and restaurant ( no booking required). The grounds are lush and beautiful and it's possible to see many birds and maybe even monkeys. We were happy with our room which had a luxury feel with very nice toiletries. It was a standard room with two double beds. It only had a fan but that was fine. The windows were open but with mosquito nets which meant we could hear the sounds of the jungle. The room was very clean. It had a pleasant outside deck. Dinner in the evening had plenty of choice, our starters and mains came very quickly. We were hungry so we didn't mind but it felt a little rushed. We had the squid and bean soup starters, and chicken and steak dishes for mains. All were very good, the steak in particular was expertly cooked. The breakfast the next morning was also very tasty. Staff were very efficient and pleasant throughout. We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel as a base for visiting Tikal.

We liked the convenience of staying in the Tikal NP, but there are a few things that bring the rating down: There are periods when the electricity goes down. Fortunately it's usually between 3 AM and 4 am, when you are sleeping. The cobblestone walkways are difficult to navigate with suitcases. The rooms lack air conditioning and TVs and there is no phone to call. They are stingy with the bottled water and towels. The rooms need some deep cleaning, the screens are filthy. Toilet clogged easily. Fortunately the onsite restaurant is decent and the prices are somewhat reasonable for being a captive audience. The grounds, lobby, and pool area is beautiful. Internet only works in the lobby, not in your room!

Realistically, the only reason to stay here is so you can visit Tikal early. That being said; we enjoyed our stay. The rooms were small but very clean. The king size bed was very comfortable, the shower worked well, and everything was fairly modern and clean. There was no A/C, but the fan worked perfectly. Service was mostly good at the lodge; the weak-point in service would be the reception. The problem with reception is that there is no concierge desk and reception tends to do double-duty as both reception and concierge. Reception's advice on tickets and transportation is not great, or thought-out, but other than that, we found the hotel had good service and decent facilities (especially considering you are in the middle of the jungle). I would stay here again if visiting Tikal, but I would not rely on the information provided by reception.
