The Jungle lodge was the ideal location to explore Tikal from. Located just inside the admission area for the park proper, it was less than a 5 minute walk to gain entry. I'm willing to give the place some leeway, given its location, but I'm also happy I was only there 1 night.
Every member of staff I encountered were helpful and patient. The room was clean if simple. The atmosphere of the hotel, nestled in between the trees of the jungle, made you feel really immersed.
There's really no signage or direction indicating how to get to the hotel. You're left working through language differences to find your room.
The bed was 'board of wood' stiff. There was just no way to get comfortable on it. The bathroom was on a septic system that I managed to immediately clog. The shower was a dribble of water that only came out scalding hot. My shower consisted of jumping in an out as quickly could to try an rinse off. The plumbing issues might have been chalked up to "rustic ambiance" except I realized that the restaurant, not 100 feet away had proper flush toilets and sinks that operated perfectly normal, so the plumbing exists to give that to the rooms.
The restaurant is expensive for meh food. But the only alternatives involve leaving through the entrance and walking over to the comida area with its small food vendors.
In the end, I'm not sure the cons outweigh the convenience of the location, but they could do so much more to make the stay more comfortable.
