This was the worst experience we have had with VRBO. We arrived late at night and were greeted by the overpowering smell of garbage from the trash cans at the bottom of the outside stairs. The apartment appeared clean, but dingy (kitchen cabinets, sofa.) There was an air purifier turned on by the entrance which was not large enough for the space and needed a filter replacement. We noticed that the floor was very spongy in several areas and there was an overpowering odor of mildew. After unpacking, I began to have an asthma attack (which is very rare for me - my asthma is nonexistant unless I am around mold or cigarette smoke.) We tried to contact the host, Jenn but the wifi password wasn't working. We had no choice but to leave and check into a hotel. We messaged Jenn as soon as we got into the hotel and did not hear back until the following evening. Her response was curt as she basically gaslighted me regarding my reaction to the air quality in her unit - denying that there was any problem - they had had mold tests, etc. Unfortunately, my father was dying in the hospital so I took a couple of days to respond. When I did, I mentioned the death in the family delaying my response. No response from her for two days so I contacted her again to confirm that she was unwilling to compensate us before leaving an honest review. I told her that we felt we were entitled to some kind of refund even if not in full. She responded, "Please do!" No offer of condolences.
