Quinta D'Alegria, a charming traditional estate dating back to 1871, underwent an extensive restoration in 1999, transforming it from ruins into an award-winning residence. Perched on a hillside along Caminho do Monte, below the renowned wicker toboggan run, this estate boasts captivating vistas of Funchal and the sea. The spacious rooms within are suffused with natural light and offer an air of luxury. The lush gardens enveloping the property feature an abundance of palm trees, camellias, fragrant climbers, avocado trees, and vibrant bougainvillea.



Owned by Joy, a resident of Madeira for more than three decades, the villa caters to those seeking tranquility amidst breathtaking surroundings. The villa's exceptional location at the end of the famous Monte toboggan run ensures splendid views over Funchal Bay.



Expansive terraces in the generous gardens and around the pool area cater to sun enthusiasts, while ample shade is provided by a variety of trees. These outdoor spaces are furnished with sun loungers, chairs, tables, umbrellas, and a Weber BBQ. The entrance, adorned with a conservatory, leads to an elegant living and dining area, complete with an open log fireplace for cozy winter evenings. French windows open to the gardens and heated pool. The well-equipped kitchen with a breakfast area connects to a BBQ space and a shower/WC, perfect for post-swim or sunbathing refreshment.



Upstairs, the villa offers three bedrooms: one en-suite double, another double, and a twin room, all affording stunning sea views. The fully equipped kitchen includes a breakfast table for six, a gas hob, electric oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, coffee machine, toaster, and a wide array of crockery, cutlery, glassware, and cooking utensils.



At the elevated eastern corner of the garden, the Studio Annexe accommodates an additional two guests, exclusively offered in conjunction with the main villa. This annex boasts its own separate entrance from the gardens, a living area with panoramic Funchal views, a kitchenette ideal for preparing breakfast or light snacks, and a king-size double bed with an attached shower room.



The Studio Annexe is available only when the Quinta d'Alegria is occupied by more than six people. Should a booking for fewer than six people wish to use the Annexe, the rental rate for seven people will apply. The Studio Annexe is reserved for adults (no guests under 18 allowed).

The large living and dining area is sunny and commodious, offering seating for eight with armchairs and sofas, along with French windows leading to the garden and pool area. A cable TV, DVD/Video player, CD/cassette radio, Bluetooth speaker, and free Wi-Fi cater to entertainment needs. A traditional dining table with seating for eight sits conveniently near the kitchen.



The modern open-plan kitchen and breakfast room is fully equipped with a 4-ring induction hob, built-in oven and microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, kettle, coffeemaker, toaster, handheld blender, and a table with chairs for six.



Outside, a spacious rectangular swimming pool with panoramic sea views is surrounded by a deck furnished with sunbeds and a sun umbrella. Adjacent to the house is an outdoor dining area complete with a portable barbecue. A shower room with a single hand basin, shower, and toilet enhances convenience. The beautifully tended garden is lush with mature tropical foliage.

Pool heating is optional, with costs of 140.00€ per week for a 24ºC setting, payable in cash upon arrival. An additional fee of 30.00€ per week applies for each degree increase, up to a maximum of 26ºC. Requests for pool heating should be made at least one week prior to arrival; if requested after arrival, the minimum charge applies for one week from the activation date.



Within a five-minute walk lies a bakery with a café bar serving fresh bread. Several simple restaurants are also within walking distance. Funchal's center and harbor are 3km away, reachable by a regular bus service with a stop just a few meters from the villa.



Madeira, situated about 700 kilometers west of the African coast, is a breathtaking mountainous island surrounded by the warm waters of the Gulf Stream. As the first island discovered by Portuguese navigators in 1419, Madeira grew to be an essential resting point during journeys to the new world. Today, the island appeals to a diverse range of visitors, from those seeking a temperate climate year-round to nature enthusiasts, sports aficionados, and lovers of culture and history. Additional amenities at the villa include free Wi-Fi, a laundry room with a washing machine, steam iron, and ironing board. All necessary linens are provided, including towels for the swimming pool. A complimentary cot and high chair for infants are available upon request, though guests must provide their own cot linen for health and safety reasons.



A weekly charge of €35 for logs applies to the open log fire, and a portable gas heater is available for winter months. Joy, the owner, is pleased to prepare a supper for guests upon their arrival, showcasing her excellent culinary skills.



Cleaning and linen changes are carried out every seven days. For stays exceeding eight nights, an additional light cleaning and fresh linens are provided. A security deposit of 250€, payable in cash upon arrival, is required.



Quinta D'Alegria's rental rate varies based on the number of occupants, so it's important to input accurate details regarding dates, the number of adults, children, and infants during the booking process. A 30% deposit is necessary to secure a reservation, or the full amount if the arrival date is within eight weeks. The remaining balance is due eight weeks prior to arrival.



The property is registered and holds an Alojamento Local lodging license nº26099/ AL.
