Everyone goes to Bangkok. Rumour has it you’re not cool if you don’t. We’re here to tell you that’s a bunch of rubbish, because you can be just as cool going to Hat Rai. Heard of it?
It’s a place in the Songkhla Province with the third-biggest reclining Buddha statue in the world. The place where you can buy almost anything at a market that floats on the Toei River. Browse lastminute.co.nz’s great offers on Hat Yai holiday packages and go immediately.
Welcome to Thailand! Drop your bags at your Hat Yai accommodation and go exploring. Pay a visit to the Hat Yai Floating Market and load up on local mementos like wooden rice baskets, pure silk sarongs and a Buddha carving. If you get hungry, there are plenty of floating stalls serving up tasty fried insects. There’s nothing like a handful of sautéed crickets to check your hunger.
When you’re done perusing the market, make your way to Hat Yai Municipal Park. The first thing you’ll notice is the gold statue of Phra Buddha Mongkol Maharaj, which towers over everything. You’ll also find a planetarium, the Guan Yin Temple and the King Rama V monument. Be sure to set aside at least half a day for gallivanting around this area.
Hat Yai International Airport (HDY) will be the starting point for your adventure in the Songkhla Province. You can get from the airport to the hotels in Hat Yai by taking a taxi, a minivan service…or you can go big and get a limo. The city centre is only 14 km from HDY, so your ride from the tarmac to your room is short and sweet.
We’d give you more reasons to go to Thailand, but the ones above are probably enough. Browse our spectacular offers on Hat Yai hotels and book a stay today. And if you’d rather chill out on a nearby island, we’ve got you covered. Look at our great deals on Koh Samui accommodation and take the quick hour-and-a-half flight to the middle of the Gulf of Thailand.
