A beautiful hotel in a beautiful location. The beach in front is lovely with nice beach walks and forest walks nearby. The room was a nice size with a balcony and a comfortable bed. Very friendly staff.
The hotel needs maintenance. You could see in many areas, from wood steps to the restaurant deteriorating to the pool needing repainting. The chairs in the room we very uncomfortable. You needed to roll out of them to the floor to get up. Breakfast was served but only until 9 am, which is too early when you are on vacation. There were no "Do not disturb" signs, so we made our own after the first day.
We enjoyed the pool table in the restuarant/bar area. Our 15year old son played with us for the first time and he loved it! The pool was great too! Thanks!
Sorry, the beds were nice enough, but the walls had unfinished patch repairs all over, the internet didn't work so the TV with built in Netflix didnt work.
Said kitchen closed 8:30pm, we went to get a small bite at 8:10pm and it was all closed up.
I don't believe it was worth the price we paid for it. but it has potential.
The views were spectacular.
The room required tea and coffee facilities, and brrakfast had finished at 9am so I was unbale to get a coffee or breakfast by the time I went to the dining room. I would have loved an early morning coffee.
The sea view is stunning. Our room was very clean but the decor is a little tired. We only stsyed one night and it was fine. Therecwere lots of families on holiday so it must be popu

Pros: Bed was comfortable. View fantastic. Dining was excellent.
Cons: BIG con, and one I couldn't avoid; the bathroom had NOT been cleaned! There was still excrement up the sides of the toilet, hair all over the floor and shower, and the sink was clogged! Overall frankly, disgusting!
Management when informed the next morning, offered nothing but an apology. (it was too late the night before, we were too tired and hungry and had to let it go)
I will be writing a positive review shortly but in the interim would like to pass on some confidential feedback to the owners which iis not for wider circulation
Having had family connections with Ōmāpere. I am aware how difficult it is to run a profitable business particularly when tradesman have to come from Kaikohe or Kerekeri. However in Room 33 there were some minor maintenance issues which if fixed would improve ratings especially from overseas visitors. The first was a missing catch on one of the overhead windows, the second the need for replacement of the sealant around the bath which has been affected by mould, and might be interpreted as dirt
Thank you for passing this message on to the manager
The villa was private and was surrounded by bush. It was quiet and peaceful and was right on the beach. The staff were professional, friendly and helpful. The food was excellent. We enjoyed a very pleasant break and will certainly rebook.
Great spacious room around the back, recently refurbished and very comfortable beds and chairs. Nice deck area for sitting outside and wonderful pool with great views over the beach & harbour. Would happily recommend & return.
Friendly bar staff & reception- thank you.
VERY disappointed in this hotel. I booked the Villa goong by the photos online. What a big mistake that was! The unit was tired and basically a big let down. We had NO cutlery or plates in the unit to eat off and there were no spare blankets as it got a bit cool in the night. Outside the villa was scruffy and needed some TLC.
This hotel needs a good makeover to justify the room rate I paid @ $333.00/night!
We are now staying in Paihia and have cutlery, plates, spare blankets and the unit is clean and a great deal @ half the price with a room rate of $159.00/night.
We would never stay at the Sands Hotel again.
The most breathtaking view, room and facilities were lovely and clean, excellent staff and service. Would definitely stay again.

The spa was cold when we arrived. The spa water had a bad odour - like it had not been cleaned and the water had been sitting for a long time. There was sand in the bottom of the spa. It was a shame as we booked to be able to use the spa pool. Some of the bench top surfaces were sticky. The Villa we stayed in was tidy. The grounds and staff were lovely.
