I rented this home to host a family dinner. The house itself is nicely decorated and the location is excellent.That said, what we found in the freezer was unacceptable.On the second day of our stay, my brother bought a bag of ice that would not fit in the freezer. When we rearranged items to make space, we discovered a large, extremely old hairball. This was not a small or recent mess. It was obvious it had been there for a long time and had not been cleaned.It was appalling and frankly made me sick.I requested a refund of the cleaning fee. The owner refused.Instead, they focused on the fact that I had unregistered guests at the home and stated they were choosing not to charge me for that. Apparently, having people over for dinner violates their rules. That is their right, but this restriction should be clearly disclosed on the booking page. Most people reasonably assume hosting a family dinner is allowed unless explicitly stated otherwise.What was most disappointing was not the rule itself. It was the response. Rather than apologizing for the condition of the freezer, the owner claimed that we must have brought the hairball in ourselves.That response tells you everything you need to know.Indian River is a beautiful area and I would absolutely recommend visiting.
