Great location

Great location in Kilkenny. The free parking was a bonus and it was great to be able to leave the car there and walk everywhere. We stayed in one of the newer rooms which was spacious and spotless and the shower was great! Delighted with our stay there and would definitely stay there again.

Good location with pros and cons

A well kept old building, with convenient private parking in the city (big plus) very close to Kilkenny Castle, pubs and restaurants. It's an old building, so lots of steps if mobility is an issue, but very pretty with a lovely bar and dining room. Wifi on our floor was very weak. We found the staff very polite and hard-working but definitely understaffed for breakfast - took ages to get a coffee/tea and no chance at a second cup without being quite forward (which we opted not to do since the two girls were running their legs off trying to cover everyone). Overall, a comfortable stay very convenient to the old city if you're not in a hurry or in need of string wifi.

I liked Ian, who was helpful and the breakfast was good. Alison was good there. I had allergy problems in my room though and didn't sleep well. It could have been cleaned better. I couldn't close the sunlight too, so pollen and flies came in there. But lots of parking out back and in a great location!

The location was nice with walkability to all the top sights, and staff were friendly. The property is historic so I expect some “charm,”but the large gaps between floor boards (aka holes) felt under the carpet in our room were a little concerning, the single key provided for the 3 of us that was needed to both open AND ClOSE the door was frustrating. Poor water pressure. The hotel had a large brass band performing on this Tuesday night which was fun - but they were loud in our room and played past 11:00. It was very hot in our room as well. Of course there is no AC, windows open a few inches. The room had two small fans provided but they offered very little power or air flow. The comforters on the bed were soft and fluffy, but the mattresses were quite uncomfortable. We hardly slept.

The staff were lovely & breakfast was great! However, the room had a dingy smell to it, the water pressure in the shower was practically non-existent, there was mould in the bathroom, beds weren’t great, & sheets were scratchy. Perhaps worst of all, as travellers without roaming data, the wifi didn’t reach our room (which was only at the top of the stairs), making it difficult to contact loved ones at the end of the day. Wouldn’t be top of my list of places to stay again.
