The hotel is a traditional and historical luxury hotel. It is spacious and has old but beautiful style. If you appreciate old grandeur, you can appreciate this hotel. It has many important events. We were there to witness a big event with dozens of geishas walking in. Great in room shiatsu service. We did it 2 times.

The customer service was excellent, the superior room was a reasonable size and the location was close to two rail lines. The castle was close and the view of the castle was great particularly at night.

Okura never fails to impress!

My stay at Hotel Okura Kyoto was truly exceptional and exceeded every expectation. From the moment I arrived, the staff impressed me with their warmth, professionalism, and genuine dedication to guest comfort. Every interaction felt personal and attentive, making me feel valued throughout my visit. The room was beautifully designed, spacious, and meticulously maintained, with thoughtful amenities that made my stay both relaxing and convenient. The attention to detail in both comfort and cleanliness was outstanding. I especially appreciated the seamless blend of modern luxury with traditional Kyoto charm. Dining at the hotel’s restaurants was another highlight. The food quality was simply superb, with dishes prepared to perfection and presented with elegance. Every meal was a delightful experience that reflected the high culinary standards the hotel is known for. Overall, Hotel Okura Kyoto sets a gold standard in hospitality with its world-class service, excellent accommodations, and exceptional dining. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kyoto and will certainly return on my next trip.

Exemplary Service

This was my 3rd stay at Hotel Okura Kyoto in the past year and each stay has been exemplary. The staff is courteous and very professional. The lobby was beautiful and my corner room was extremely clean, quiet, and comfortable, as well as rather large by American standards, which is rare in Japan. I had a breakfast buffet in the rooftop restaurant overlooking the Kamo river. It had a good variety of breakfast items with the french toast as the stand out item in my book. I elected to have room service for the following 2 days and it was also wonderful. The Japanese room service breakfast was quite good. I did manage to have dinner at the Japanese restaurant on the 6th floor and it was a feast for the eyes as well as the palate. The cafe on the lobby floor had the most wonderful wagyu hamburger set dinner as well. In summary, I highly recommend Hotel Okura Kyoto for the connoisseur of Japanese culture and I will indeed be staying there again on my next trip to Kyoto. Thank you to all the staff of this very fine hotel.

My son and I visited Japan in February/March 2025 and stayed in hotels in four cities. Not only was the Hotel Okura Kyoto our favorite hotel in Japan, but it is now one of my favorite hotels worldwide. First, the rooms are impeccably clean and have every imaginable amenity. There is a fantastic amount of storage, and rooms are very quiet. We tried both breakfast restaurants, and loved the extensive western and Japanese options.The location was very useful, and walkable to the main shopping street while in a quieter spot. However, the staff were by far the most wonderful part of our stay. We had some difficulty in Kyoto figuring out transportation options, logistics, and finding things we need - the staff helped us each time with very personalized issues. They also arranged a much better car rental agreement for us when our plans changed. They were even able to help us find the nearest pet store selling rabbit food - every request was met with warmth, kindness and assistance.
