In the heart of the Gion district, this house was renovated by architect-designer Fumiko Kaneko and named "Poem Box".

This serene and cozy refuge, very well located, is ideal for enjoying the mix of modernity and tradition that characterizes Japan.



Description of the house



The house is in a single block (21m2): downstairs equipped kitchen, shower room and small dining area overlooking the adjoining garden.

A Japanese black tatami lounge, usually used for famous temples, completes the ground floor. A washing machine is then located under the shed outside.



At the other end of the house is a comfortable living room equipped with a table and chairs overlooking the neighboring garden.



A mezzanine completes the house. It has a comfortable double futon

Access to the mezzanine is via a ladder, and this can be difficult for elderly and/or tall people. However, it is possible that someone sleeps on the ground floor. The ceiling height of the mezzanine is approximately one meter. Air conditioning is located on the mezzanine level.



The neighborhood



The house is very quiet, in the heart of a residential area and very close to all the tourist sites of the Gion district (Higashiyama district), famous for its geishas and its picturesque streets. The house is a 15-minute walk from the famous Kiyomizu-dera Temple, a UNESCO heritage site.
