La fortuna

Great hotel with view of arenal volcano and a short drive to la fortuna. Plenty of wildlife, mostly birds on grounds. Breakfast was great. Picture of our breakfast buddy.

Love and care from the owner of the property shows. We particularly like the fact that the property is 5 min drive away from busy downtown. Tucked away in nature. Enjoy beautiful sounds of wildlife, garden, and some bird watching. Breakfast and dinner options offered are delicious with local ingredients.

We had a perfect view of the Arenal Volcano right from our porch. Very quiet place with lots of birds. The gardens were beautiful on the property. We had a car so it was a short 5 min drive to La Fortuna.

I’d avoid with families

It was a funny stay at brisas. There’s no denying that the setting is amazing. You really do feel immersed in nature and it’s very peaceful. I found the staff pretty hostile and not very welcoming, especially the receptionist. It feels a bit more like a self catering lodge than a hotel. The room was dated, like it hasn’t been touched since the 70s but it was still clean and comfortable. With the air con it was either cold or very cold, difficult to get a happy medium. We had a blocked drain in the toilet one afternoon, through no fault of our own. And when we told the receptionist he just said ok I’ll send someone to sort it. No one came to sort it until the cleaners came the next day and all they did was clean the dirty pan. The toilet was never actually unblocked. Maybe this is a normal occurrence. Having to order breakfast at reception the night before was annoying. I’d understand if it was some lavish breakfast, but it was literally just rice eggs and toast. Not sure why this needs ordering in adavance. We forgot to order it one night so ended up skipping breakfast the next day through fear of upsetting staff by just turning up. Be aware there is no pool, a photo on hotels.com looks like a pool although after re reading I didn’t see anything saying there was a pool so this is as my error, but there def isn’t one. Also be away if you book as a family or more than two people, weirdly you only get 2 breakfasts included in the room rate. We were a family of 5, @ $9 each

Great cabin for family of 4. It’s nicely situated a few minutes from town, away from the busy La Fortuna. The grounds are incredible. Beautiful landscape with lots of nature. Lots of birds and a nice hiking trail right on the property. We loved our stay there and would gladly return.

The hotel has the basics, nothing extra, nothing spectacular. The staff isn’t very friendly, with the exception of the gentleman who prepares breakfast and knows about birds and coffee. There’s a young lady who yells every morning, arguing loudly without caring about anything. She has no knowledge of customer service whatsoever. Being the owner or the owner’s daughter doesn’t give her the right to yell as if she were in her own backyard. She argues everywhere, her voice and yelling are heard all over the place. The breakfast lacks flavor; only the bananas and coffee are good. Hopefully, they can focus more on the customers and provide a friendlier and more cordial service.

The hotel grounds are beautiful with many tropical plants, flowers and birds including a parrot and a toucan. The hotel advertises a restaurant but it is only open for breakfast.

It's nice to have a room surrounded by nature, and breakfast was good with variety of choices and lots of birds around, felt very relaxing. Our reservation covered 2 breakfast, so we just had to pay $9 for the extra person (we are a family of 3). The only thing I would complain was the walls are thin, so if you have a noisy neighbor, you can hear everything. But this was not the hotel's fault. This was our first 2 nights in Costa Rica, so we didn't realize that you are not supposed to throw tissues in the toilet, so it clogged up badly just before we checked out which we felt so bad, we told the front desk, and he was nice about it and said he will inform the service. I would definitely recommend this place to other travelers!

We loved that the property was in a quiet area with amazing views of Arenal volcano. The grounds are lovely and there is a rainforest with a trail adjacent to the property. We saw hummingbirds, toucans, guans, and oropendula each morning. The staff was friendly and housekeeping kept our porch tidy and rooms clean. Overall, a great experience.
