The staff are the crowning glory of this hotel and any minor issues are dealt with in a helpful and friendly manner. I have stayed here over many years, and would come back again.
Very happy with the accommodation.
Not a modern hotel, but has character and it is very comfortable and in a convenient location.
Very friendly and helpful staff
I have stayed at this hotel on numerous occasions as it is near Lancaster hospital, i am in the forces and having delicate surgery on my knee ,so going out of the hotel is nigh on impossible so rely on the hotels service ie restaurant and bar to my amazement the hotel lost its alcohol licence on my second day there.not very nice when you cant get out no compensation or help was offered only by what i can only say as.by a very surly evening reception young lady wen i asked about this her rough reply to my question about advertised service that i had payed for was you have a bed and room.....totaly unbelievable and rude...the room i had paid for was very tierd with stained carpets..lmy room was along way from the lift which one strugled to get to ...most of the staff are so sweet and helpfull but a detriation by a couple of the staff and the closure of the bar service soured my stay not a happy stay very upset.........
Hotel had some age to it, was nice enough, staff seemed freindly , helpful etc. Room was adequate just thought the overall cleanliness let it down a little. Some hairs in the bathroom and the window had not been cleaned (inside ) for some time but those are my only criticisms. Nice place and would stay again.
Overnight meet up in Lancaster but this hotel was absolutely perfect.
Staff were friendly and helpful - we had a problem with our remote control and were offered several options to help, including the offer of a different room to see if the TV was any better there.
5min walk to station.
2min walk to castle.
Central location for town with a selection of eateries.
Beds were extremely comfortable.
Possibly some more hooks in the room would be useful to hang coats.
Also hook on bathroom door would be handy
The hotel is obviously of its age and clearly has a lot of history so it might seem a little dated but it was clean and tidy and had everything we needed.
Not sure how much use the Crypt (downstairs bar) gets but it would make a great spa!!
All in all a really lovely stay. .
Excellent Period property. As an older building we were unsure what to expect but it’s immaculate throughout. Staff were incredibly friendly and we were delighted to be checked in 3 hours prior to the arranged time. Couldn’t be more conveniently located a minute walk from the castle and the Main Street where all the shops, bars and restaurants are. They don’t have onsite parking but there is a very safe pay and display car park 3 minutes walk away which was only £14 for 24 hours. That’s much cheaper than any other city hotel I’ve ever been to. We will be back. We really enjoyed our stay and the city.
Hotel in prime position. A grand old building really nice downstairs . Helpful / friendly staff. Lovely restaurant and lots of choice for breakfast both continental and freshly cooked Lots of choice. BUT the bedroom was looking very sad and dated ( well ours was ). Would go back again if rooms were tidier
So I paid extra and booked a so called superior room. The room was small and very dated, it was freezing and the bathroom was even colder.
I went to reception and asked why I wasn’t in a superior room and was told that I was.
I asked for a heater and after arguing my case for five mins she finally decided to let me have one.
I’d already booked a table for dinner at 19:00 hrs but decided that if this is how they were going to treat me I would nip to a local shop instead so I had a sandwich and crisps for dinner. While I was at the shop they put a small oil radiator in my room but it was still cold.
At this point I jumped in the shower to warm up and went straight to bed at around 20:15 hrs.
The room was nice and clean with an oldie worldie feel to it. We had an upgrade to a room nearer the lift due to my wheel chair which was fab
What let them down was hospitality service. We asked if we were able to get food at 4:30 pm as we had an event to go to early. We were told no problem. (They had a wedding and a 50th party on)
We sat down at 4:30pm and had to wait 30 mins to be told what was dairy free on the menu before we could order. The staff didn’t seem to know and were waiting on the chef. We got food at 5:35 with barely time to eat it as we had to leave at 5:45pm
They were apologetic and offered extra free food when we got back. We weren’t hungry so asked for toast and tea.
Breakfast was similar. Lovely food but we sat down and then several others did and they got asked for orders before us.
There didn’t seem enough staff on and everyone was so laid back that they forgot that people need attending to.
Such a shame the food service side let it down as the food was lovely as was the room.
We booked at the last minute, having missed our last train home. The lounge area is bright and welcoming. The bed was very comfortable and staff were friendly and helpful.
Very convenient for the railway station and the town centre.
