Le Domaine de la Maison Neuve is a historic property owned by Laurent and Brooke Bert-Roussel, a French/American couple who speak both French and English. It lies on the outskirts of Le Molay-Littry, a small village close to the historic villages of Bayeux and Saint Lo. La Maison Neuve is the perfect basecamp for your Normandie adventure. We are fifteen minutes from Omaha Beach, D-Day Museum, Overlord Museum, and the American Cemetery. All of the D-Day Beaches and sites are under a thirty minute drive from the property. Looking to go horseback riding? The world-famous Louveaux, Centre équestre de Normandie is next door to the property and they offer lessons and rides for all levels of riders. Or if you would like to explore further, take a day trip to Mont Saint-Michel, an UNESCO world heritage site and one of France’s most visited monuments. It is just a little over an hour from the property.
La Maison Neuve was built in 1820. The main house is a "maison de maître” with a very rich history. During WWII it was occupied by a German General until liberation in June 1944.
The guest house you will be renting is a former carriage house fully renovated into a luxury, two bedroom, gite. The main floor has a spacious living room and a full kitchen. The living room has a sleeper sofa and a love seat and is tastefully decorated. There is also a beautiful wood burning stove, fully stocked with wood for chilly mornings or evenings. The kitchen comes fully stocked with a full-size refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, and dishwasher. You will find all the dishes, pots and pans, and utensils you will need to prepare meals. There is a Nespresso machine as well as French Press pots and an electric kettle. The kitchen table can seat up to six.
The upstairs boasts two beautiful bedrooms with gorgeous wood beams and hard wood floors. Each bedroom has a full size bed, night stands, dresser, and hanging racks. The bathroom is new and spacious with a lovely massage shower, toilet, and sink with plenty of fresh, clean towels. The guest house can sleep up to six, with the sleeper sofa.
The house sits on eight walled acres and is secured by a coded security gate. The guest house has its own, private, outside seating area with a table and chairs. Guests are free to walk the property and gardens. Horses are kept on the property in the back field and are always a joy to observe. A dairy farm sits just across the road and the field is always full of beautiful cows eating, resting, and roaming around. If you are looking for a truly authentic Normand experience, you have found your place.
Parking is available for up to two cars. There is not a washing machine in the guest house but a washing machine is available on the property for use.
