This plaice was once a beautiful structure and grounds, but now shows serious signs of neglect both inside and out. Nothing like the photos. Chef was kind and tried to help us feel comfortable, My friend and I, two women, in our late 70’s traveling alone, were very uncomfortable having this big old creepy house way back in the mountains, surrounded by brush and trees, all to ourselves. We ask about a restaurant and was told the nearest was about 30 minutes away. We had traveled 6 hours so Chef made us a snack of dry meat and bread. There was no water to make coffee, So I brought water from the car and the coffee tasted “bad” and no creamer. There was plenty of alcohol to make drinks on the open bar, but neither of us drink. So we were going to watch a movie and make the best of it. NO TV! We decided o take a drive to find food and, once away, we admitted to each other we afraid to go back after dark. Seriously frightened, we decided we could not possible sleep in that big ancient house alone, so we went back, packed up our stuff and found another place to spend the night. Nothing against Chef, but the mouse traps under the bed was the last straw.
The host, Chef Herbert Kerschbaumer, was very gracious and accommodating. The food was exceptional and we can’t wait to get back and sample more. My chef husband was in seventh heaven. The B&B is right next door to the Lovingston Winery and couldn’t be more convenient. Grounds are picturesque. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
This is an older house, so charm abounds. There is some specific art work that may not be everyone's taste and a small fruit fly problem with/near the bar but the breakfast was phenomenal! The host is super friendly. Overall - recommend!!
Definitely a great place to stay especially if you’re visiting wineries in the area. The owner is wonderful and the place is beautiful.

Disliked: Cleanliness, staff & service
No was at the property to check us in. Walked around and waited. No one up so we left, leaving a note in the front door. There was also a large box that had been delivered.
The property was great. There were plenty of areas to relax, indoors and outside, and a nice trail to walk around the property. And the dogs were always ready for a ball toss (Jack, the Belgian Malinois) or a snuggle (Olive, the pit bull rescue). The breakfast was delicious
Herbert was an excellent host! We loved hearing about the history and what went into updating the home as a Bed and Breakfast! Breakfast was delicious! The setting was beautiful! Olive and Jack were an extra bonus in making us feel at home.
Red Hill is a fabulous venue on a large estate with gorgeous vistas. The location is very convenient especially for events at Oak Ridge Estates. The highlight of our stay was breakfast with a CHOICE of fabulous entrees, and a presentation comparable to a fine dining establishment. Herbert is a fascinating host and a pleasure to converse with.
This is the only place I will stay in and around Lynchburg Virginia. I love the house and the property is amazing, Herbert the owner is not only a great cook but a good conversationalist. I have stayed over 200 nights in an Airbnb and this is by far the best place I’ve ever stayed. This was my second trip and I will most certainly be back.
This B&B is amazing! Herbert, an amazing chef, is a caring and generous host, providing a breakfast that any 5 star restaurant would be hard pressed to compete with! He provides mimosa's and 3 courses of amazing choices, cooked to order just for you - and arranged for any time between 6 and noon! The house is beautiful and historical, dating back to 1835, but updated amenities make your stay quite comfortable. The grounds are also thoughtfully presented, even including a tree sheltered get-away complete with a movie screen if you want to enjoy some entertainment outdoors. The scenery is breathtaking and will be amazing come fall with the hills covered with changing leaves. Highly recommend - just a rare gem of a B&B!
If you’re looking for a quick getaway and something other than a boring hotel I highly recommend Red Hill Bed and Breakfast in Lovingston,VA. Hebert, the owner is a very talented and hospitable DC chef and dad to his sweet 3 kids who help him. They just opened 7 weeks ago but you’d never know it. We had such an amazing time and definitely plan to come back. This beautiful Victorian house, built in 1835 was so welcoming. Our room was so comfortable and even had its own bathroom/shower. Breakfast was the best we’d ever had with homemade Belgium waffles, delicious omelets, hash browns, even warm breads paired with homemade butter and delicious jelly. The beignets, our 1st course (and frankly one of the reasons I chose this B&B) were delicious! Thank you Red Hill Bed & Breakfast for making this trip to see our daughter a memorable one, we can’t wait to come back to this wonderfully relaxing home and visit this super friendly family (including the dogs!)
