Decent Stay; Some Rude Staff

Great location. Nice pool and nice to have a private section of beach. The rooms were outdated but very spacious and comfortable enough, and thankfully the AC worked great. Some of the staff wasn't friendly and they definitely weren't helpful... For one, my room wasn't ready at the already late check-in time of 4pm. They also wouldn't budge on checkout time (10am, which is early when you have a late afternoon flight and it's SO hot outside). The man who helped with beach chairs was one of the rudest men I've ever encountered in my travels.

We originally booked two nights at the Royal Islander Resort La Plage at the beginning of our stay in St. Maarten, planning to switch to an all-inclusive resort across the street for the remaining four nights. But the moment we stepped into our room at the Royal Islander, we completely fell in love with it—and immediately canceled our other reservation to extend our stay here. The hotel is beautifully maintained and very well equipped. The staff is incredibly friendly, professional, and always ready to help. The pool is large and clean, and the entire property feels peaceful and inviting. We are a family of four and stayed in a two-bedroom suite, which was so spacious and comfortable that we honestly felt like we could move in permanently! The only downside we noticed was the food and water situation. It would be nice if breakfast were included, or at the very least, if complimentary bottled water were provided in the rooms. Thankfully, there’s a supermarket conveniently located just across the street, which came in very handy for picking up snacks, drinks, and breakfast items. Overall, we had an amazing experience and would absolutely return. If you're looking for a relaxing, family-friendly place with great service and a beautiful setting, this is it.

Excellent service. Very professional and friendly. Attentive to our needs. The room was more like a small apartment with oven, fridge, microwave and coffe and tea makers. You get out of your room and you are on Maho Beach, beautiful, sandy and clean. There is also a beautiful expansive pool. And a wide variety of restaurants and shops right out of the lobby. 10/10

Everything was great. Only downside was the beach chairs and umbrellas. The guy running it starts at like 830am at 730 there already a line of people waiting for them, only 20 umbrellas with 2 chairs each and they are share with the all inclusive resort next door, so 80% of people that get them does not even stay at the royal islander. Also umbrella guy is very unfriendly set up chairs and umbrella super slow takes about 1hr 30mins to set them all up. Unless your tip him he will do all umbrellas first then put out chairs last. Also closing time is 5pm he will tell you that, but then at 3:45 to 4pm we will start taking all the umbrella out the sand and packing them up to go.

Quiet and peaceful. We stayed Wednesday through Saturday, it was nice to watch the planes land from the comport of a lounge chair. The ground people kept the pool and sand areas clean.

Nice but Very Noisy.

Property is very clean and located right where you want to be for Maho beach. Excellent for plane spotting as long as you are above the 2nd floor. The room is very comfortable and the view of the pool and ocean is great! The only problem is, on one of the two sides of the hotel, the bedroom is directly over the road and a bar that blasts music from 8pm to 2am. Don’t expect to sleep other than 2am to about 8 am if you are placed on this side of the hotel.

My husband and I, along with our 3 adult children and their spouses visited the Royal Islander to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. We thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. The grounds were very well kept with tropical flowers all around. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with kitchenettes that we put to good use.The pool is large and clean and just a few steps from the beach and a waitress is always handy to provide cool beverages for everyone. We enjoyed the poolside Bingo and the Crafter's tables. Activities and excursions were easy to plan with the on site activity coordinator. The elevators are fast. Groceries, dining and shopping were all within just a short walk and if we needed a taxi, they were there within minutes. We and our family loved our time at the Royal Islander La Plage and will absolutely be coming back.

Loved the location of the resort and watching the airplanes land and take off. The rooms were outdated but had everything we needed. Loved the pool area and access to the beach! The umbrellas and chairs on the beach got taken pretty early but I liked that the hotel had a sand/beach area where you wouldn’t be bothered by vendors.
