The lighthouse, still active, is located in front of this very pleasant house, formerly inhabited by its guardian and which is now open to you to stay in peace. Great place in great location on a hill overlooking the harbour and as a working lighthouse it is quite quirky. Very well located to visit a number of WW2 beaches, batttlefields and memorials which is why we were there. Also a short distance from the medieval town of Bayeux. Port en Bessin itself quite small but some very good restaurants and a couple of bars. As we were there early in the season some of the restaurants were closed but enough for us to try a different restaurant on all four nights we were there. We were a party of 4 male adults and found the house very comfortable. Would definitely recommend Maison du Phare.

Lovely Stay at Lighthouse

We had a wonderful time at Maison du Phare. We were a group of 9 friends and family, with children, teens and adults staying for 2.5 weeks. The bedroom, kitchen, dining room, living room all worked well for a group of that size. The common areas had a lot of natural light which we loved. The kitchen was well-equipped (cups, plates, tableware, pots and pans) and we were provided with ample towels and linens, We loved the location of the house. Port-en-Bessin is the perfect location for DDay beaches visits. The house is just a short downhill walk (5 minutes) from the port in town which is lined with shops and restaurants. The walk back up will be difficult for people with mobility issues but otherwise just requires a bit of effort.One note for those staying - Contrary to the listing, there is no air-conditioning in the house. It was not needed while we were there - the temps were actually quite cool and opening the windows let a nice breeze through, but it is something to be aware of if you are concerned about heat.

Perfection in Port-en-Bessin-Huppain!

We had the most amazing stay at David's lovely home! We were a family group of 8, including my 85 year-old mother. The house was so special. Impeccably clean, a gorgeous location and the lighthouse made it even more spectacular. There was a large bedroom downstairs which was perfect for my mom and the rest of us had plenty of bedroom space on the upper floors. The sitting room attached to the working light was a favorite spot for reading and game playing. We witnessed a stunning sunrise on our last morning - it was a great send off. The little town has some great shops and restaurants and was a quick walk down a steep hill. Perfect location for visiting WWII sites (including the bunker right across the street). David was a gracious, helpful host, very accommodating and easy to communicate with. Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer!

Fun Stay

Beds were super comfortable and house was very clean. Great base for our WW2 sightseeing. Host was very responsive and easy to work with. The hill is steep as others have mentioned, so getting in and out was a bit tricky for us. This would not prevent me from staying there again.

Ideal family house nearby to attractions

Great house, with real character close by the port and all the restaurants and supermarket. Enjoyed walking down the hill to buy fresh baguettes each morning. There is parking at the house, but we found it easier to park a bit further up the v steep hill to make it easier to get in and out. David was really easy to communicate with both in advance of arrival and during our stay when a minor issue was fixed within an hour. Check in and out was well organised and the welcome bottle of cider appreciated. WiFi was great – kids can't live without it. My one comment would be that it would be nice to have some toilet paper supplied as late arrivals on a Sunday we almost had a crisis 😊 The Port has a really good fish market, and the house has everything you need to cook it. The road up and down is v steep but even with a big car we managed and in return you get some great views. Many thanks for a great stay.

Beautiful & Charming Lighthouse Home

The home is even more beautiful in person than the pictures can portray. It is a functioning lighthouse overlooking the port, and it has stunning views. The home itself was perfect for our stay - very clean, all rooms were well appointed, and the host, David, was very responsive and helpful. Highly recommend!

Exceptional property close to D Day Memorials

This house is exceptional. Everyone in our party enjoyed having their own room, the beds were comfortable and the kitchen was very well equipped. The lighthouse portion of the house was a hit! It was also good to have a washer and dryer as we have had an extended stay in France. The views are exceptional and we loved Port en Bessin. Wonderful Sunday market, great restaurants and bakeries. Had a wonderful time here and would recommend it for families.

Serene English Channel Views

This home was a favorite for my family of 6. We appreciated everything about it. It has a fully stocked kitchen. The bedrooms were large and had very comfortable beds. We were able to relax at the home and were very near many historical landmarks. We loved overlooking the English Channel. We highly recommend this vacation rental and if we travel to Normandy again, we will definitely stay here.

Fantastic stay at "The Lighthouse".

Our Normandy vacation wouldn't have been the same without staying at this magnificent place. If you're reading this, you probably already know that this property is actually a working lighthouse But that's only part of the charm. To start off with, the lighthouse looks exactly (or even better!) than in the pictures, plus it was clean and ready when we arrived. It has all the usual amenities, a well-equipped kitchen and spacious rooms. The social area, right where the light is located, is a pleasure to be in. The views from there are simply stunning. Lots of parking space, as well. The property is also perfectly located to visit the D-Day beaches, cemeteries and museums, all of them within a quick drive. Even Mont Saint-Michel is only a 90 minute drive away. The local town, Port-en-Bessin-Huppain, is charming and usually quiet, with quaint little shops and restaurants. Seafood is particularly fresh and good. There's also a few bakeries and a supermarket. There was also a street market on Sunday morning, which we found very lively and charming. It's an easy downhill walk from the lighthouse to anywhere in town. The uphill way back to the house is quite steep (18%), but a good workout. David was easy to reach and communicate with, plus he gave us a few sightseeing and restaurant recommendations. Thank you and we'll certainly stay here again if we're in the area.

Beautiful!

I can honestly say this is my most favorite place I’ve ever stayed. Absolutely beautiful and impeccably clean and decorated. We are so thankful to have stayed in such a wonderful place. Only suggestion would be to add a second couch in the sitting area. Since it sleeps 10, it would be good to have a bit more comfortable seating for all to gather together - the home and the view makes you want to sit and enjoy!

Magnifique in Port en Bessin

Fun to actually stay in a working lighthouse! Bright, sunny, modern kitchen with fabulous sea views. The house has everything you need for a comfy stay. Port en Bessin is a lovely historic town to explore and is close to DDay beaches , historic town of Bayeux and just 2 hours from Mont. St. Michel. We highly recommend this home if you’re considering staying in the Normandy area.
