Staying in a cave room but having an entryway in the room with windows out on the gorgeous Matera scenery is perfect. We also had a porch with chairs to sit outside. The breakfast was amazing! Fresh and delicious food served to us by the most welcoming people you could ask for, Angela and Agnese. We also had a wonderful piano player, Gianni, at breakfast every day - now that's a first for us!. If we went back to Matera, which we hope to do some day, we would stay here again. The only negative is WiFi is not reliable in our room. Unfortunately across all of southern Italy our 5g T-mobile plan didn't work either so we used physical maps. We stayed a week and so were able to see a lot of this magnificent area. Most people only stay two or three nights and I feel that is not enough.

San Francisco to Matera

Our stay at Corte San Pietro in Matera was nothing short of magical. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth and care. The hotel itself is stunning — carved into the ancient stones of Matera, yet designed with incredible comfort and attention to detail. Every corner felt authentic, peaceful, and full of history, while still offering modern luxury. Breakfast was fresh and delicious, and the staff went above and beyond to make us feel at home. We were also fortunate to meet Fernando, the owner, whose passion and hospitality made our stay even more special. His love for Matera and for the unique spirit of Corte San Pietro truly shines through. Finally, we want to highlight our wonderful chauffeur, Pasquale, who drove us from Matera to Positano. He was professional, kind, and extremely knowledgeable about the region. The drive was long, but he made it safe, comfortable, and even enjoyable with his friendly personality and great conversation. We will always remember this part of our trip as one of the best experiences in Italy. Highly recommend both Corte San Pietro for a unique stay in Matera, and Pasquale if you need a reliable, thoughtful driver on the Amalfi Coast journey. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wonderful experience

Absolutely wonderful experience. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel is made up of several cave-houses, which gives you a very unique experience. Our room was very spacious, with a sitting area separate from the bedroom. Another sitting area outside your door on the courtyard is a great place to enjoy a night-cap. Matera has to be seen at night to be appreciated, and the Corte San Pietro hotel is right in the middle of it, providing an excellent experience.

Charming experience in Matera

A very charming place to stay that provides up level service. Breakfast was delicious. Everyone is courteous. They gave us a nice guidance on how to explore better Matera and also nice restaurants recommendations.

5 Star Experience!

This is a beautiful & amazing property in Matera! The staff and owner are very warm and attnetive to the guest. They have a great breakfast evryone with traditional foods. Hotel is centrally located , you can walk to restaurants, bar, shops, cathedral and take a hike to the famous caves. We fell in love with this property & the people... will definitely be back!

The location and the hotel itself was excellent, truly a unique experience. However, even it paled next to the service, which was simply the best we have ever received. Friendly, family-like atmosphere, with staff members who seemed genuinely keen to discuss with us. Nobody was in a hurry, but everything worked.

Corte San Pietro is the most beautiful place to stay. The staff is like family, very friendly and welcoming with everyone. Even the owners are around to welcome you. The rooms are fabulous! I was lucky enough to stay in room 7 and it was located just up from the reception and the bed was a climb of steps up, but I slept so well. The breakfast is the best I’ve seen following 3 weeks in Italy. I was greeted by the most lovely woman with all kinds of fruits, cakes, toasts with tomatoes, water, orange juice and she got me cappuccino anytime I asked. Oh and did I mention the piano player? It was in a sassi and I only missed my boyfriend, as I was solo traveling here. Centrally located and I found some great spots close by for cocktails and dinner. I’ll definitely return one day with someone special. And there is a fabulous spa advertising in the room!! OMG- just do it.
