About this property
Vale de Camelos Country House, Alentejo, Portugal.
Welcome to the introspective beauty of Baixo Alentejo.
Vale de Camelos it's a country house located on the most iconic rural region of Portugal - the "Golden Plains" of Baixo Alentejo. If you're looking for a place to rest, look no further. The house is more than 200 years old, built in the typical Alentejo style, with white walls, blue basement and orange tile roof. It's completely rebuilt to meet contemporary needs, while keeping it's original style. The house is located at the end of the tiny village (typically a "monte") of Vale de Camelos.
The house has a typical decoration that contributes to a cozy environment you can enjoy during spring, summer, autumn or winter.
It has a typical settlement around a patio, facing the garden and the swimming pool, giving you total privacy. It has a large garden and lots of spots to rest or read. During summer, a nice swimming pool has a wonderful view of the surrounding plains and plenty of shadows around to lay down a chair or a towel. You can also visit the orchard and, by request, you can collect vegetables and fruit to cook a nice meal. You can also cook using the outdoor grill.
Inside, it has a spacious living room with fireplace, for the rare rainy winter days. A perfect environment to rest, eat, sleep, read or play board games. The kitchen is also large and includes a comfortable eating area. It has 3 master bedrooms, 1 double room and two bath room, one with shower and the other with tub/shower combination.
You have plenty of options for short or long walks or bike rides, across the fields of wheat and vineyards. You can also take an after lunch/dinner walk around the place and meet the neighbours. Locals are very friendly but will not disturb your privacy in any way.
The region has a really nice weather. It hardly rains, thus the sun is normally present.
Although it's located deep in the country side, it's just 20 minutes away from district capital Beja, or typical villages of Mértola and Serpa. You can travel to these locations by car, along very nice roads, across the golden plains of Castro Verde or the green hills of Mértola. There are plenty of towns with medieval castles you can visit and+ other tourist attractions that will contribute to an unforgettable stay.
Baixo Alentejo has a great reputation as an excellent place to rest, travel and utterly famous for it's gastronomy. Ultimately, there isn't an average restaurant around, all of them - and there are plenty - offer high quality tradicional food meals.
