Gemma Apartment is a very pleasant and bright flat, located on the second floor of a period building in the centre of Monterosso. It is fully equipped and ideal for 4 or 5 persons. The flat has 2 large bedrooms, both rooms with a king-size double bed that can be divided into 2 single beds if desired. The bedrooms both have en-suite bathrooms. You can add an extra single bed or make use of the sofa bed in the lounge (up to a maximum of 5 guests in total).

In the very bright and spacious living room there is a 1.5 sofa bed. The living room is open plan and on one side is the fully equipped kitchen and the dedicated dining area with table and chairs. From the windows of the kitchen lounge you can see glimpses of the village, the church of Santa Croce and a little further in the distance the bell tower with the village clock.The flat is located in the old part of the village in a quiet area and close to everything (shops, bars, restaurants. The nearest beach and port are only 150 metres away. The railway station is only 500 metres away.

The hostess reception was really great, she was very friendly and have some good tips in places to visit. The apartment has good bones and I would say this is an acceptable place to stay, safe and reasonable clean aside from a few fruit flies. Far from ”excellent “ though, this place needs a bit of investment. The couches are past due and should be replaced with one nice couch. There is a need for new mattresses in the single beds. The table height is laughable in relation to the chairs, which are made of cheap plastic and metal tubing. Also the table finish is defective as it is always slightly sticky. All should be thrown out and replaced. Then the wall decorations and lighting can be updated.

The access to the apartment was located in an ally off the main street which was very difficult to find and there are 34 steps to climb to the apartment. The apartment was clean and the beds and baths were comfortable. The main issues we all experienced related to the uncomfortable furnishings in the kitchen and living room. The kitchen table was too tall for the uncomfortable kitchen chairs. The two little sofas were low to the ground and you sunk into the back of them when you sat so it was very difficult to get up. The wooden chair we used from the bedroom was also very uncomfortable. the only place you could sit comfortably was in your bed.

Beautiful 2nd floor walk up with good air cross flow and full kitchen. Nestled in the old town, We had easy access to restaurants, the beach, and the hiking trails to nearby Vernazza.

Amazing Experience

This apartment was what we envisioned an Italian apartment to look like. You walked out of the apartment right into a hustling and bustling community. The market was a few steps away. It was small but had cheese, breads, etc for us to enjoy snacks at the apartment. Laura's pastry shop was only steps away and the light and flaky, cream filled scone melted in our mouths. We do suggest a stay in the old part of Monterroso al Mare. Giovanni was an amazing host and Veronica was helpful in greeting us and going over the house rules and how to work everything.
