About this property

Entire place

You'll have the entire cabin to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

Cozy Cabin in the Pines

Our cozy rustic cabin will make you forget all about the hustle and kbustle of the city. Nestled in the mature pines (this area did not burn in any of the fires!) we are close to all the amenities Summerhaven has to offer including world class hiking trails, rock climbing, Ski Valley, and restaurants and shops. Kids can play in the woods behind the cabin or at the stream at the base of the road!

A brand new deck has been built September 2024. Same cabin but bigger and better outdoor space!

The Space

This 70 year old 850 square foot rustic cabin is well appointed with a great room/kitchen, 2 bedrooms, and 1 bathroom. The two small bedrooms will sleep 4 people comfortably with a brand new Casper queen bed in the master and 2 brand new Novaform memory foam twin beds in the guest room. The kitchen is stocked with silverware, cooking items, and utensils. The great room offers a comfortable place to snuggle up with a book, play piano, warm up in front of a roaring fire, or enjoy a movie. The additional deck space is a lovely spot to view wildlife and relax in the temperatures typically 20-30 degrees cooler than Tucson.

The cabin is accessible via approximately 20 stairs with open side rails. As there are steps to ascend and the balcony is not fully child-proofed, you will need to be careful if you bring young children.

Guest Access

There is a keypad on the front door for access. There is a "loading zone" parking spot up the hill at the base of the outdoor staircase leading up to the cabin. Permanent parking is in a clearly marked spot at the base of the hill, about 45 feet away. Please do not leave your car in the "loading zone" for more than 15 minutes as it blocks access up the road to the cabins beyond.

*** WINTER ACCESS ***

In the Winter months, you will most likely need to have a 4x4 vehicle, all wheel drive, and/or snow chains, to rent the cabin, since mountain access is restricted to such when there is snow/ice on the road. Please stay up to date with weather conditions and call the Road Conditions Line for updates, which can be found by googling: "mt lemmon road conditions line" (I'm not allowed to post the phone number or link here). Also you may have to walk through snow to get up to the cabin as only the base of the road is plowed.

Other things to Note

The cabin does not offer a washer/dryer or air conditioning.

While there is a General Store right up the road, plan to bring all of your food and drinks up the hill from Tucson.

There is no trash service on the mountain so you will need to pack out all your leftover food and trash. We will be forced to charge you $75 PER BAG of trash left in the cabin.

We now allow house trained dogs under 30 pounds. There is no smoking anywhere on the premises. We appreciate you keeping all food and drink out of the bedrooms.

Mt. Lemmon water is mountain spring water and we drink out of the tap.

There is cell service on the mountain. As for cell data, T-Mobile and AT&T work very well and Verizon gets some coverage in the evenings and early mornings. We now offer WiFi through a T-Mobile hotspot!

The cozy fireplace is for you to use, but you must bring your own firewood. You can purchase this at the general store down the street.

DIRECTIONS:

Take Catalina Hwy all the way up the mountain and into the town of Summerhaven. Drive through the town past the Lodge and the General Store and the Cookie Cabin. Past the Cookie cabin on the right side of Sabino Canyon road you will see a turn off for Carter Canyon Road. Do not take that right, but turn left about 10 ft past that opposite of Carter Canyon Rd. There is a little cement bridge that crosses the creek with a metal crow on a street address marker and a manual lifing gate. Cross over the bridge and drive a short distance to the right up the hill and 12700 will be on the left.
Please call with any questions.
Make yourself comfortable in this cabin, which features a fireplace. There's a private patio. A kitchen is outfitted with a refrigerator, an oven, and a stovetop. Conveniences include a microwave and a coffee/tea maker.
This smoke-free cabin features hiking/biking trails nearby.

Just Ok, wouldn't repeat a stay

definitely not a 300 night stay (2 nights total 594). Newer deck is best feature. Otherwise, mostly outdated, not to clean, and ghetto. Nice view from front windows, if the front windows were clean and dead flies removed from windowsill. Shower limited to 1 minute of hot water. Toilet and human body barely fit into tight spot. Dilapidated railroad tie steps are a challenge to navigate, accident waiting to happen. Gas grill is not clean. Place could use a thorough deep cleaning, especially walls and floor. 30" TV is grossly undersized. But wifi is good and the top deck is great.

Almost Perfect

Pros: very clean, just as described in the listing. Location: right down the street from the main area of Summerhaven. You could walk to the shop and restaurants, but it feels private due to the tree cover and elevation. Wildlife present: We saw a large group of wild turkeys, a large squirrel, and a lizard. Cons: In my opinion the mattresses are subpar. There are so many affordable bed in a box mattresses that are better quality than the ones currently in the cabin. Could use an upgrade. These feel like really old spring mattresses. The fireplace needs to be cleaned. The cabin smells like smoke due to this. There are two grills at the house: the Weber has legs that are barely holding on, and there is no ash pan for the grill. The gas grill works but does not get hot enough to, for example, get color on bbq chicken. Will need to finish off under the broiler. If the mattresses and grill setup were upgraded this would be five stars.

I just wish getting loaded and unloaded was easier.

I believe that everything inside the cabin was very nice. I like all the amenities inside the cabin and the way it was decorated. I just wish getting loaded and unloaded was easier. I feel like the picture showing the stairs did not prepare me for what I would need to do to get into and out of the cabin. The bottom of both ways into the cabin (steps and path further up) were not that easy for me or my Mother to navigate. Part of the issue is that the railing on the steps does not go all the way down and that it is only on one side. The railing doesn't feel that stable. The only thing to lean on the steps for the path further up is a low-lying log. We arrived right around 4pm and it was almost dark by the time I got everything in the cabin and we were supposed to be out by 11 am, but even though I started loading up our vehicle around 8:30 am, navigating the available paths took me until almost noon. I am hopeful that this is fixed because we loved staying in the cabin, but the paths may make that impossible.

Beautiful location along the Pines

This lovely cabin felt like a retreat. It had everything that we wanted. Lots of hot water, and lovely views, while sitting on the deck among the Pines. A nice plus for some of us who like to make a bit of music was the fun or piano In the living room area. Thanks so much we enjoyed our stay.

Reworking of Cabin

We were happy with the cabin, unfortunately the TV didn't work and stairs up to the cabin we very bad. Both my husband and myself almost fell down. Also at the top the step by the door was a rotted out spot, if you stepped on it would cave in. The cabin has some good points they just need to fix the entry way. I asked for a refund for one day which was granted.

Cabin UP in the pines

The cabin itself was in the pines and was well equipped. The stairway up need a new railing very unsturdy and loading with bees. One of us was bitten. would definitely not recommend for anyone who is remotely handicapped

Cozy inside, adventure outside

Perfect for our family of four (kids 3&5). Exactly as described. Fit us well…loved the piano and fireplace. Kids loved exploring around the cabin, outside and trail just across the street. Right in town yet quiet. Neat wildlife sightings! We’d stay again ❤️

Rustic, Cozy & a wonderful stay in the pines!

We stayed here for 3 nights over the Christmas holiday and it was perfect for quality family time together! Checkin was without a glitch and owners were great with prompt communication. There was plenty of space for 4 ppl, bedrooms nice, living room and dining perfect to cozy up with a crackling fire and games or movies. The shower head is great , and the heater works very well! The kitchen has its vintage charm with all necessary appliances and plenty of counter space. Loved the Welcome basket that included coffee, hot chocolate, wine and popcorn! The views are very pleasant of the surrounding forest and we enjoyed watching all the wild turkey strolling through the property on numerous occasions.. what a sight just to see them so closely, meandering around! Over all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Canin in the Pines! Thank you Tamara !

Cute, Rustic Cabin in the Woods

The location of this property is perfect, it's about a five minute walk to the shops of Summerhaven. Though in town, it feels private and secluded as it's up on a hill among the trees. The inside is very cabin-y, which is exactly what I wanted. The master bed was comfortable with great pillows. (I didn't try the two single beds but heard no complaints), The kitchen has everything needed to prepare full meals. There's a nice deck with seating, a grill, and a view. Our favorite was the fireplace. No need to buy firewood as you can find enough kindling and wood right outside your door. Be sure to bring matches or a lighter. Our stay was the first weekend in November with cool nights, and the cabin heated up nicely. Overall, we plan to return sometime next spring or summer. Oh, and our host was very communicative, answered all questions timely, and even left a little basket with coffee, tea, hot chocolate and wine!

Great location!

We enjoyed our long weekend in Summerhaven. The cabin has a great location which allows you to park and then walk to town, hikes, and restaurants. One thing though is that the amenities listed a jacuzzi/ spa and there was not one. We would rent again for the cabin’s great location. The dated furniture didn’t bother us.

Our stay was great nice cozy cabin. Far enough away from all the traffic but still close enough to walk to the country store and restaurants. One recommendation I can make is to upgrade the inside of the cabin.
