Absolutely loved our stay at the Fern & Thistle Hotel in Balclutha! The historic charm of the house is beautifully preserved, with a stunning vintage garden full of old roses and unique plants. The amenities are outstanding—from the cozy dry sauna in a barrel cabin to the luxurious hot tubs (one in the room and a massive one in the garden). The countryside views add a peaceful touch, and the complimentary drinks and local beer were a generous bonus. Our room had a super king-size bed and Netflix on the TV, making it the perfect spot to unwind. The owner is warm, polite, and clearly takes pride in every detail. A truly special place—highly recommend! Steam curls in the garden air, roses dream in silence there. Barrel sauna, warm and still, country hush on every hill. Golden beer and velvet bed, gentle words the owner said. In this house, the past is near- peace and beauty, crystal clear.

My wife and I spent three nights here for our anniversary along with our 2 dogs. The place was exaclty what we were looking for: somewhere quiet, beautiful sceneries, and very close to the beach. There was alot of firewood which we were grateful for as it was very cold (winter!). The house has great insulation so we didnt have to keep the fore going throughout the night.Most importantly, the place was very private, we only saw a total of 3 human beings! Dogs loved it too. The garden was very well enclosed and beautifully maintained (we have 2 medium sized dogs). There was a sand pit which would be ideal for children play.We will definitely comeback

We had a fantastic time here. Lovely clean house and a wonderful location to explore the beach, rock pools, playground and local cafe. We loved our time so much we plan to come back in the near future.
