The area is also a nature reserve and perfect for bird watchers, with an array of wildlife amidst beautiful scenery for keen walkers and cyclists. Hadrian’s Wall is easily reached, and affords some of the most spectacular scenery in all of England. Discover the famous Vindolanda Roman fort, The Sill Landscape Discovery Centre and the world famous Sycamore Gap. For keen golfers there are some excellent courses nearby at Matfen, Slaley, and Close House, previous host to the British Masters, only a short drive away.
