Very good
All reviews shown are from real guest experiences. Only travellers who have booked a stay with us can submit a review. We verify reviews according to our guidelines and publish all reviews, positive or negative.
On arriving the receptionist was first class, courteous, welcoming. The standard room was large & warm but had issues. One light had a strobe effect & all had to be turned off. Beds were not locked in place & moved easily across the wooden floor if you knocked against them or leaned against the headboard when sitting up, accident awaiting.
Bathroom basin cold tap only turned on when serious force applied. Waste on bath defective & it filled with water when showering, remaining that way. Otherwise, the bathroom was clean.
Only two sockets in the room & one was used by a lamp. No sockets at bedside for charging devices.
All of this in contrast to excellent rooms we have stayed in before in this hotel.
Worst experience was TV having a timer set which brought it on at 5:30am with a shopping channel booming. Sleep was barely re established when pre 8am, hammering heralded drilling in the floor below. A good night’s sleep is the minimum requirement for a hotel stay & that wasn’t achieved. We might as well have stayed at home & awakened at 5:30am to travel to Belfast instead of paying for this experience.
Breakfast was good.
Check out was poor. Receptionist was exception to otherwise excellent staff. Didn’t bother to enquire about our stay. Was argumentative/dismissive on being calmly told of our experiences & said we should have told reception about it before checking out & it would’ve been resolved. It was a 1 night stay. We left shaking our heads.
Never again.
Stayed in apartment that was like 1980 student accommodation. Wallpaper coming off wall and really cheap furniture had sticky back plastic partly torn off etc. Restsuraht was good and breakfast ok.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
The room was clean; the staff were friendly and the amenities in the room were excellent.
Hotel lobby and communal areas are maintained to a much higher standard than our room was.
The bed was comfortable enough but hardly slept a wink due to room being unbearably hot. Opened the window but our room was over a very noisy air unit so had to close it again.
There was no air conditioning in our room however, and the bathroom extractor fan didn’t work. The over the bath shower was difficult to get to a good temperature and the shower curtain was filthy and stank with mildew. The pipes leaked from an unknown source and flooded the bathroom floor every time we used the shower and the ceiling sprang a leak over the toilet on our last night. The bedroom carpet was covered in stains and the curtains and ceiling had dusty cobwebs dangling from them.
I understand that the hotel is housed in old buildings with creaky floorboards and complicated wiring/plumbing, but I do think that to describe our particular room and experience at the Malone as a 4 star Boutique stay is misleading.
I don’t mind staying in a rundown, noisy room with dodgy plumbing and no heating controls if the price per night reflects that but I just do not feel we got value for our money here.
Staff were kind and sympathetic but I would not stay here again.
Room was neat and tidy and the heating worked very well.
Check-in was excellent and receptionist was very friendly and helpful. Car park was easy to find and parking spaces were readily available.
Breakfast was excellent. Great selection of food and teas/coffees were always available.
If only they had served tea and coffee at the table!! Too mnay visits to buffet required to just get a pot of tea, mug, milk etc
reception very helpful and foyer was lovely
bedroom was small but pleasant
would stay again
