room was a bit cramped with very little space for 2 people and the shower room was also very tight for space. Glass shelf hanging over the small sink not a good idea! The decor in the public areas (staircases, entrance hall, etc) very tired, marks on walls, worn carpet. Breakfast ok, but buffet shouldn't have fried eggs lying for ages (hard and cold). No teapot or teaspoons available - very poor for a modern hotel. Pool area - dirty, unattended and really past its best. I reported an overflowing bin and showers not working properly to the front desk but as far as I could see no action was taken. Front desk staff were friendly, restaurant staff at breakfast a bit harassed by the feel of things. We didn't use the bar.

Breakfast usual buffet selection. Rooms a bit dated with old brown furniture but bed firm and comfortable. Disappointed pool closed on Mon morning after we arrive so couldnt swim 1 day before breakfast. As only 2 day visit this was annoying. Otherwise pleasant stay but slightly overpriced.

Good Stay

Healthy, tasty food with good choices. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Swimming pool and steam room were good. Change of original allocated room was okay. Mattress not the most comfortable. Overall hotel was a bit tired and probably needs some money spent on it. However the friendly staff interaction made it an enjoyable stay.

The town of Oban feels like a place missing its potential. It has great fundamentals. The same could be said of the Muthu Alexandra. The staff was lovely. Breakfast was the full deal. The view is a delight. But the threadbare condition of everything doesn’t inspire either confidence nor ease. The Muthu could have been a Wow instead of a Meh.

Loved our room, quiet , clean with a great king sized bed which was very comfortable making you feel relaxed and cozy. Navigating the many up and down halls was a bit of a maze like challenge , better information on how to find our room would have been helpful as well as where to locate fire exits . The decor is a little ornate from my perspective but pleasing . The staff were very welcoming and friendly, always comforting to tired travellers. The dining facility was very pleasant and the food selection very good.

Could be much better given the excellent position it has with views over the bay. Highly disappointed with the dinner option as was expecting fine dining and seafood restaurant as stated on the hotel building in large letters. They couldn't even tell us what the dinner menu would be as the chef hadn't sent it through until very late in the day by which time we had decided to look elsewhere. Room refresh left much to be desired, not even rinsing used cups on one occasion, just the bin emptied that day. Bins in toilet areas ought to have lids on, not be open waste paper bins. Plus point, bed was comfortable and we had a lovely view over the bay.

This os not the first time i have visited this hotel. The standard of food was terrible with limited options. Last year you had choices from a menu and the quality of the food was outstanding. This time you had a buffet menu resulting in a choice of belly pork or samosa steamed veg or pasta and potatoes. Pumpkin spice soup and a çhoice of two deserts this was first night the food wasnt very hot. Not worth £25.00 pp. Breakfast was lovely well worth the £13.00. Evening menu on second night another buffet menu with a choice of chicken in creamy sauce or vegetable pakora steamed veg pasta in a cream sauce and wedges pumpkin soup and chocolate gateaux and strawberry cheese cake again not worth the £25:00pp for luke warm food and poor choice of food very dissapointing dining experience compared to last year.

Would like to return soon

Stayed in a larger family room away from the waterfront, but very convenient to car park. Older style accomodation, but ha been well maintained and was very suitable. A good breakfast, plus bonus of a short walk into Oban city centre along the waterfront. Would stay again.
