Holidays in Queenstown

Queenstown is a place with plenty of cool stories to tell. If you think your life's been a bit humdrum lately, a trip here is the perfect answer!

It lies 820 kilometres southwest of the capital of Australia, Canberra.

Put aside some time to take a leisurely stroll along Beaches, 20 kilometres to the southwest.

You won't have to head too far to take in some superb natural sights. Load up the car and head in the direction of Cradle Mountain-Lake St. Clair National Park, 40 kilometres away from Queenstown, for a relaxing day. Or maybe Lake Rosebery looks more appealing? You'll find it 40 kilometres away.

For a nice spot to sit back and bury your nose in a book, look no further than Spion Kop Lookout.

The Eric Thomas Galley Museum will allow you to gain a new perspective on the local community.

The Strahan Golf Club and Strahan Harbour are quite close to the centre of Strahan, 20 kilometres to the southwest. Need more? Zeehan, 25 kilometres to the northwest of Queenstown, has the West Coast Pioneers Memorial Museum and the Zeehan Golf Club.

Eating is one of life's biggest pleasures, and since you're here, we guess you think travel is too. Combine your appetite for both by getting out and trying the local cuisine at various restaurants, cafés and bars across town.

Beef and salmon are some popular ingredients used in many dishes here. If you don't have an appetite for them already, you might by the end of your visit!

During your time in Queenstown, eat like the locals do. That means tucking into a plate of salt and pepper squid or meat pie, two of the area's distinctive dishes.

Holiday calories don't count, right? So it's a terrific excuse to indulge your sweet tooth in some peach melba, a popular dessert.

They say life's not all beer and skittles, but there's definitely nothing wrong with indulging in a cold one every now and then. When you're in West Coast Tasmania, make sure it's Cascade Special Stout.

Bundaberg Spiced Rum is the go-to spirit for many locals. Ask your bartender for a shot and embrace that warm glow!

Whether you're a full-blown grape chaser or you don't know your whites from your reds, you're sure to appreciate the local Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon or Huon Valley Pinot Noir.

Having a hard time saying goodbye? Don't worry. This picturesque region will always be here to welcome you back.

With some planning, getting to Tullamarine Airport (MEL), the closest airport, won't be too much trouble. It's just 490 kilometres to the north of downtown Queenstown.
