DO NOT STAY HERE.
I booked this hotel while in town for a wedding. I was hesitant after reading several negative reviews and noticing that the hotel appeared outdated and overpriced ($218 per night), but since there were only two hotels near the venue in Columbia, I decided to move forward.
Unfortunately, I had a family emergency early Saturday morning and had to check out around 9 a.m. to travel back to my home state. I had only checked in the previous day after 3 p.m. On Monday, I noticed I was still charged for both nights despite leaving early.
After contacting Expedia, they reached out to the hotel on my behalf regarding a possible refund. The hotel responded that because my reservation was prepaid for two nights and they were sold out, no refund would be issued.
While I understand policies, the lack of empathy and flexibility in an emergency situation was extremely disappointing. A gesture of understanding or partial credit would have shown basic compassion and professionalism. Charging a guest for a night they did not stay—under unavoidable circumstances—is unfair and unacceptable.
As a teacher, every dollar matters. I wasn’t asking for anything unreasonable, only fairness. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone looking for decent service, understanding, or value for their money.
