Gîte by the river in the Dordogne - La Gloriette

The cottages of the Bigoussies mill can accommodate up to 10 people in 3 completely independent structures.

The "gazebo" is a very spacious cottage which can accommodate up to 3 people (1 bedroom and a convertible sofa) it also has a private terrace under a gazebo. Direct access to the river.

The 3 lodgings have been recently renovated in contemporary comfort and will seduce you with their exceptional location by the river. You have direct access for swimming, fishing or canoe trips. Located 5 minutes from Ribérac, they will be the starting point for many visits to the region. This 18th century mill belonged to the 12th century Romanesque abbey of Saint-Saud-Lacoussière above Brantôme. Presumably built on old foundations, we find it on the 18th century Cassini cards; its architecture is from the XIXth century.

It became an eel fishery at the end of the 19th century, then the refuge of a historian writer, before opening up to you on the Dronne. The water quality is exceptional, it is a dream place for fishing or walks.
Make yourself comfortable in this vacation home, which features a fireplace. There's a private patio. A kitchen is outfitted with a refrigerator, an oven, and a stovetop. Conveniences include a microwave and a coffee/tea maker, and housekeeping is provided on request.

Lovely river-side location

Another visit to this wonderful place situated next to the River Drone. Good comms with the host and a lovely traditional Gite with all the necessary things you need!! We brought our bikes and the area is perfect if you love this activity. Also very good if you like a dip in the river. Well recommended.

Remarkable and unique holiday

Friendly and welcoming hosts at this incredible and unique mill. The area is quite, private, and beautiful. The rooms are clean, stylish and comfortable, and the outdoor area is a special place to relax, including swimming and canoeing in the river! What a wonderful place to stay.

Idyllic riverside holiday

Beautiful converted water mill. High quality fixtures and fittings with lovely decor. The wonderful garden is full of flowers and wildlife, including chickens, ducks and a lovable but occasionally noisy cockerel! You can choose from the sunny jetty on the river or pick a shady spot under the trees. The host and her son were friendly, welcoming and very helpful, leading us to the best fishing spots and providing local insights. Nothing was too much trouble! Location was great with a fabulous choice of restaurants and boulageries for the morning bread and croissants in town . We would thoroughly recommend this property and will certainly be returning.

We enjoyed being by the river in the peace and quiet (despite being close to the road!). The canoeing was good. We saw many kingfishers, dippers and other birds. Very comfortable flat and very accessible to interesting places.

Natalie was very welcoming and her English is excellent which helps. The cottage was very comfortable and has everything you need. We stayed in the one with a tiled covered gazebo which was great when it was raining because you could still sit outside. We stayed 4 nights which I think was just right. Plenty of places to visit within an hour and Natalie was always on hand with advise. Only slight negative is it is not walking distance of the town of Riberac but we knew that before we booked. Overall a very relaxing stay which was perfect.

Lovely, peaceful stay right on the river

We spent a week here in early September. It's a gorgeous restored house on the river Dronne. It's simple but stylish, comfortable and clean. The owner lives on-site and is charming and helpful. Get past the feisty geese for a gentle paddle on the river in the canoes which are available for you to use at any time, before a glass of local wine on your own little terrace. Perfect for a quiet, relaxing break in a beautiful location.

Very comfortable in beautiful surroundings.

Welcomed by Nathalie and Thierry who were very helpful. We had a very enjoyable stay in spacious comfortable accommodation. We arrrived in a heatwave. It poured with rain the next day and the remainder of the week was overcast but pleasantly warm. The little private terrace provided a place to enjoy eating, reading and admiring the view of the river. The quality bed was perfect for my bad back. Sofa was also comfortable. Kitchen equipped sufficiently for us to prepare our own meals. Unfortunately the weather did not entice me into the river for swimming but we did take a canoe (provided for our use) for a paddle up the river. The two pet geese provided entertainment. Riberac was handy for supplies from the supermarket and the Friday market. There is a little boulangerie a couple of minutes drive in the opposite direction. A very relaxing week with the potential to play on the river.

We had a really relaxing week with Nathalie and Thierry, making the most of the good weather and lovely Dronne River. Having 2 canoes at our disposal was a real bonus and something we availed of on more than one occasion. We could recommend this property without hesitation.

An idyllic place to by the river

We happily recommend staying in the Cottage in the Mill on the River Dronne. We spent an idyllic week falling asleep to the sound of the river, sunning ourselves on the deck by the weir and canoeing up and down the Dronne. It is a place where you can spend time cooking and reading and it is a place where you can base yourselves to explore the region. Riberac (3km away) has a market on Fridays and Perigeaux (20km) has a market on Saturdays and Tuesdays both of which are filled with local produce and delights of the region. Nathalie is a great host, she has thought of everything including the best restaurants nearby and how to plan your canoe trip. If you, like us, are contemplating a trip with family in the future, it helps to know there are three cottages which could be hired together. Sometimes enough space makes for good family time.

Très belle escapade dans une région que nous ne connaissions pas.

Le gîte est superbe ! Pas de chichis, juste beau et sobrement décoré, avec goût Nathalie nous a réservé un bel accueil et avait prévu un petit déjeuner délicieux, notamment les confitures maison.
