45 years ago, on the occasion of our 5th anniversary, we stayed at a hotel in Palm Spings trumpeted as classic Hollywood Stars’ luxury complete with autographed publicity photos endorsing the place. We could see the former luxury but it was seedy smelly and disgusting, a dump of its former glory.
Not so, the beautifully restored and carefully maintained Lafayette in San Diego. It feels like a step back in time and is superbly crafted with personal service to match. It was a pleasure to sit on the patio or diner and enjoy a good selection of everyday classics. The Quixote restaurant serves among the best Mexican food and certainly the best Oaxacan tapas we’ve ever enjoyed. Thank you to the fine chefs and servers who contributed to our singular experience
My only complaint is the overwhelming and cloying architectural perfume sprayed everywhere it seems, and daily.
I stayed here on property with my boyfriend while in town visiting some friends and we couldn’t have been happier with our stay. There are so many options for dining right at the hotel, the pool is beautiful and peaceful, and the decor around the hotel is phenomenal. The staff was all so pleasant and helpful, and had some wonderful suggestions when it came to food, drinks, and entertainment. We will absolutely be back.
Loved everything about the hotel. Staff was fun and engaging. Especially Gavin and Lily. They really helped make our time at the outside bar so enjoyable! The weather wasn’t great so we didn’t get to enjoy the pool. However, I plan on coming back to enjoy that another time. It’s such a unique hotel and I look forward to staying again.
Wow be prepared to be transported in time to roaring 1930s. Blown away by the remodeled decor & overall vibe. Best for night owls on the weekend - if that’s your thing be prepared to be transported to a vintage Hollywood fantasy. Highly recommend!!
Beautiful property. It’s different and out of the ordinary. It is a little loud at night, but it’s designed for night life and fun. Definitely a gem of a hotel.
My first stay and definitely not my last! I fell in love with the property and just booked a Mother’s Day staycation for my sisters and mom! The details in everything at this hotel is gorgeous and personal I would pick this place over my annual hotel stay at the Hotel Del Coronado. Tons of nearby restaurants, but great restaurants at the hotel too!
This hotel is absolutely gorgeous. Every cozy corner is set for a photoshoot. I would stay again for it's sheer beauty alone. The customer service could definitely use an upgrade. There are basic standards that a 4-star hotel should adhere to and that level of customer service is unfortunately not here. Nothing horrible in particular but that feeling of home like they provide at say Chateau Marmont or Petit Ermitage just isn't there for me. Again, I would come back for the decor and beauty.
Top 5 hotels I've ever stayed in. The details, the art, the history, and the immersion are top notch. There's multiple restaurants inside the hotel, the diner is open 24/7 and good. Every restaurant is so gorgeous, all the bars have great bartenders. There's a bar with a bowling ally, skeeball, basketball shot, and all inside what looks like a speakeasy. Everything is inside the hotel, so one never has to step outside if they choose. The rooms are something out of a movie. Every single peice of furniture is unique and gorgeous. The radio looks like it came from the 20's and plays that kind of music. Full bar with snacks, and a special menu for adults having adult time 😉. The price is great for the experience. I would compare this Hotel to The Mission Inn ( Riverside ). Its art, history, and luxury all combined into 1. I normally dont feel sad when i leave a hotel, but sincerely did not want my time at Lafayette to end. I cant wait to return.
