We found fleas in our room which was a major bummer. The staff were accommodating and assigned us a new room but did not offer a discount which I honestly think they should have done. The continental breakfast was very good and plentiful. The rooms were very clean aside from the issue with fleas. The hotel is walkable to SDSU.

Restful, quiet and perfect for my needs.

This is an older property that has gone through recent upgrades and retrofits. The 'suite' was clean and fresh. Minifridge, that was really cold, was a bonus. They also have a light breakfast _ waffles, oatmeal, cold cereal, bagels, toast, yogurt, coffee, OJ and water_ from 6am-10am. BONUS! Staff are friendly and helpful. Well-lit parking lot, clean pool and a great sushi place next door. Around 2am, an alarm near the door started to beep. I called the front desk and he was there in a few minutes to remove it (one of several smoke detectors) and replace the batteries. I was attending a conference at the convention center. Lamplighter was much more affordable. About a 20 min Uber drive.

Great place to stay

Loved this hotel! Rooms were spacious and well appointed. Quiet, and great access to freeways, with groceries, coffee, and restaurants nearby. Grounds were beautifully landscaped and well maintained. Pool was clean and a great place to relax. Staff was polite and helpful. Highly recommend.

The stairs are extremely hard to climb, they don't go all the way around. The continental breakfast was the worst I've ever had, threw it all in the trash. Parking lot loud, lots of car lock beeping going on all night. Everything came across as really old. For the cost of a room for one night, expecting great was horrific. Won't ever go back.

Great budget-friendly stay with kitchen amenities We stayed at Lamplighter Inn & Suites at SDSU for 3 nights in April 2025 and had a pleasant experience overall. The location is quiet and convenient — easy to reach downtown and Balboa Park by car. The room was clean and comfortable. We especially appreciated the well-equipped kitchenette: it had all the basic cookware and utensils we needed, plus a large fridge and coffee maker. Free parking was a big plus. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was simple but enough to start the day — waffles, toast, yogurt, juice, coffee, and hard-boiled eggs. Only downside: we couldn’t connect to the Wi-Fi in our room and didn’t use it. Also, the furniture could use a refresh, but everything worked fine. Overall: 4 out of 5 stars. A very good stay — comfortable, convenient, and affordable. We’d stay again despite minor issues.

The property has a central location convenient to get to most San Diego points of interest within 30 minutes. The staff did an excellent job cleaning the room and the common areas. The inn is showing a little age and wear in this area of carpet in the room and some other room featuresss though.
