The hotel is beautiful, the rooms are clean and modern, and most of the staff were warm and attentive. Unfortunately, my experience took a turn on the final morning during breakfast. My mother and I were approached by not one but two managers who asked a series of intrusive personal questions — including where we’re from, what we do for work, why we’re visiting, and when we’re leaving. One even asked for our room number. Meanwhile, we noticed other guests around us were simply told to “enjoy their meal” with no such interrogation. As a Dominican-Bermudian woman celebrating obtaining my Dominican citizenship and first property purchase, this treatment felt deeply discriminatory and out of place in a luxury setting. I left feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome — a stark contrast to how we felt during the rest of our stay. This experience sadly overshadowed what could have been a glowing recommendation. I hope the hotel takes steps to ensure all guests are treated with equal respect and dignity.

We were extremely disappointed with our stay at Kimpton Las Mercedes. The hotel is advertised as luxury, but the surrounding area felt unsafe and nothing like the photos, more like a rundown neighborhood. Our room was much smaller than described and located right across from the elevator, making it very noisy with no privacy. The view from both the room and pool area was of deteriorated buildings, not the city view shown online. Customer service was also not up to par. We checked out after one night even though we had planned to stay longer. This property is misleading and not worth the price.

The property is in a fantastic location, and the hotel itself is modern and just a year old. What truly sets this place apart is the incredible staff. They are friendly, attentive, and go above and beyond to make your stay unforgettable. Moises at Guest Services was exceptional. I had a booking issue through a third party, and he took it upon himself to resolve it quickly and with a positive attitude. On top of that, he was kind enough to upgrade our room, making our experience even more special. His dedication turned a stressful moment into a wonderful memory. Johanna from Housekeeping was warm and thorough, and Damian, the bellboy, was equally helpful and kind. Don’t miss dining at Zola Restaurant, and be sure to ask for Eric. His recommendations for both food and wine were spot-on, and he made our evening extra special. Even the security and valet parking staff stood out. Always kind, smiling, and genuinely happy to help, their welcoming attitude added to the sense of comfort and care throughout our stay. This getaway was exactly what my husband and I needed: peaceful, beautiful, and relaxing. A gentle reminder to future guests: please remember to tip the staff. They work incredibly hard and, while wages in the Dominican Republic may be low, the service and hospitality are truly five-star. Be kind, be generous, and be respectful when visiting another country. This hotel is a gem, but it’s the people who truly make it shine. Highly recommend staying here
