The host was easy to reach for assistance finding the place and getting the heat running. However, the room and bedding were in need of cleaning. The bedding smelled unpleasant, and there were spiderwebs in the bathroom. The hot water only lasted for a minute or two before it turned cold, leaving only the sink and wash cloth as a bathing option. When we arrived, the gas wall heater wasn’t working, but the host arrived within 30 minutes to fix it. The mattresses were uncomfortable, like sleeping on a futon. Bring your own fluffy pillows. The lamp bulb was burnt out, and the ceiling fan remote batteries were dead. The TV worked well, and a password for the internet was provided. The host was friendly and communicative. We didn’t mention the hot water issue because we didn’t notice it until after they left from fixing the heater. Additionally, I recommend a new or different water heating system. The hot water wasn’t sufficient for a shower, which was frustrating. The property is in average condition overall, and it looks like something new is being built on the grounds. The Bear Hideaway is not old, but certainly not brand new as the description states. I suggest updating the property description. I also recommend checking the temperature of the refrigerator, as it didn’t feel cool inside. Lastly, I recommend cleaning the outside siding where some mold is developing, repairing the peeling paint at the top of the shower, and properly bolting the sink to the wall in the bathroom.

The location to nearby attractions was ideal; however, the shower temperature would fluctuate considerably and the heater did not work. We did appreciate the coziness and simplicity of the cabin.

Size and amenities were as expected. Host/property manager was very communicative and responded to all inquiries very quickly. It was cold in the property with no way to increase the temperature inside. Shower water was mostly cold which was not ideal over a rainy, cool weekend.

Upon arrival, the door was unlocked with the key on the desk, making for a very easy check-in process. The cabin was very clean. The two beds were very comfortable if you like firm mattresses. We loved them. The kitchen is minimal, with a fridge, microwave and coffee maker. We brought a camping stove to make breakfast. There was a grill next to the firepit, which we used to grill some steaks on our first night, and used the firepit as well. Lots of places in the area to purchase firewood. The nearby Bear Trap restaurant / Bar is amazing. Great breakfast, lunch and dinner in a great atmosphere. You can buy firewood there for 1 a piece out of a trailer. The WiFi at the cabin worked great, until we had bad weather on our final day. It didn’t work at all while it was raining and you kinda rely on WiFi there with very poor cell coverage. Overall, I would definitely stay here again, when visiting the Pictured Rocks area.

Overall it’s a nice place to stay in proximity to pictured rocks, hiking, and Munising. I’m not one to complain so I didn’t reach out but the cabin has a smell of either garbage or maybe a dead animal somewhere. After spending a day in the fresh air, walking into the cabin almost took your breath away-the smell was very bad. I would recommend the place if they can get the smell taken care of.

This was very conveniently located and clean. However it had a bad odor and the kitchen was very sparsely furnished…only a microwave, refrigerator, coffee pot and 2 mugs. It was fine for our needs as we spent the day in Pictured Rocks or the town of Munising and just needed a place to shower and sleep.

Great location for snowmobiling trip

This property is exactly what we were looking for for our UP snowmobile trip. A store with ethanol free gas was on site at this property. Cabin was clean and beds were comfortable. Trail access was literally across the road. Grand Marais, Seney and Paradise trails were excellent and easy to access from this property. Will book here again for next trip.

Nice place to stay

Had everything we needed. Close to where we were hiking and about 15 mins from a small town. Its nice that there is a general store right next to it. People sell firewood all along that road. Surprised how long the hot water lasted. We had to shower 4 people in a row

Good for the price

Was disappointed there was no picnic table outside as advertised in photos. Beds were very uncomfortable. Shower didn’t drain well. Suited our needs for the price.

Great Get-Away

My wife and I stayed here for a few nights on our honeymoon. We wanted a place near Pictured Rocks as we planned to go kayaking. The cabin was in between the two ends of the park and gave convenient access to everything in between.

Awesome price

We checked prices on many locations and this one was larger than a hotel room, big shower and bathroom, nice kitchen area for like half the price of places just 15 min away in Munising. Highly recommend.

Great spot in the UP to stay

This is a simple little cabin in the UP with a good location to Pictured Rocks area. We found it basic and reasonably priced for a couple of nights for us to enjoy the area. We appreciated the short stay opportunity and great communication with the owner/renter.

Great retreat off the beaten path

What a perfect retreat down the road from Miners Falls, right next door to a charming general store, and sounds of chickens/roosters outside the open window. We loved it. WiFi, TV, table and kitchenette were perfect for our needs. Beds were high (great for rolling suitcases under) and very comfortable, plenty of hooks on the walls for hanging our adventure gear and towels. I always bring a small fan with me in travels for the noise and airflow, though there is a great ceiling fan above one bed. Bathroom is large and water is good (plenty for hot showers and no well water smells or anything). The shop next door is open around 10am-6pm daily. It was fairly secluded and very quiet aside from a few trucks driving by (and some farm animal sounds which we greatly enjoyed- only noticeable with the windows open). There were two mugs in the cabinet, you may wish to pack additional microwaveable dishes depending on your needs. We saw chickens/roosters, turkeys, and fancy white geese down the lane next door - they kept to their own space.

Quick Getaway

We booked last minute and just needed a place to sleep. We had plenty of space for the 4 of us, the cooler and even counter space for the crockpot. The beds/pillows were just okay. We would definitely book here again.
