What a fantastic experience

Magnificent hotel wonderful outlook over to Valletta armand in the bar pointed us to a fantastic restaurant legligin in Valletta and the rooftop bar at the embassy his fabulous welcome undoubtedly made our visit even more special so special thanks to him cannot say enough how ne added to our visit

Amazing Hotel but Pool Situation not ideal.....

Have just returned from a lovely weeks stay with my partner. We booked a Superior room with Sea View and it did not disappoint. The room itself was very modern, spacious and well appointed. A nice big bathroom that had a large bath and a separate shower. The best thing though was the view from the balcony. Overlooking Valletta, the stunning dome and Sliema harbour, it was amazing! We chose not to opt in to breakfast and found a lovely café just a couple of mins walk by The Point shopping mall that served great coffee and pastries for only a few Euros every morning. A better choice for us. Good location too! The outdoor pool situation does need to get a mention and why i am not giving my review 5 stars. Hotel guests get access to a pool club across the road from the hotel. The club itself is very nice however this is not solely for hotel guests. It's open to paying guests (mostly younger guests) and as such hotel guests are made to feel like 2nd class citizens in many cases. Depending on who was at the pool reception or how busy they were on a particular day meant you were shoved off to one side and any beds close to the pool were not available for hotel guests and only for "paying" guests. Also, every day from midday, a DJ would be in situ playing loud dance music which i don't mind on occasion, but when it's that loud and you want a snooze, then you have no chance! A deal breaker? Possibly not but this would make us consider our options if we were to return to Sliema again.

The view and location were what sold me on Barcelo. Cant beat a view across the water to fabulous viiew of Valletta. Location to restaurants and the ferry or other rental boats was great Our room was really huge and very modern. Our balcony was also a plus. Worth the extra money to get a room with a view.

Service was terrible Amenities were a lie There is no outdoor pool for guests only, you have to share with a beach club where they put hotel guests in a hot dirty corner. To call this property five star is a joke. Don’t waste your money, stay at either the Phoenicia (more expensive) or 1926 (less expensive), but both are far superior. The only positive I can come up with is that they have an excellent bartender at the hotel bar.

Just a 4 day stay with no breakfast included however a fab hotel in a convenient location. It was my birthday (we never mentioned this) but returned to a super tasty chocolate cake with a note which was a nice touch. Would definitely rebook here! ☺️

Disappointing Experience – Not Worth the Hype

I rarely leave negative reviews, but my recent stay left much to be desired. While the hotel appears promising online, the actual experience didn’t match the marketing. • The pool area is severely misrepresented. The pool beds for hotel guests are nothing like the promotional photos — they’re far less appealing and must be reserved a day in advance, which isn’t disclosed clearly. They shouldn’t be advertised as part of the stay if access is this limited. • Cable service was unreliable, frequently cutting in and out. • My shower flooded every time I used it, making the bathroom messy and uncomfortable. • Housekeeping was inconsistent — daily water wasn’t replenished, and after using the provided shower cap, it was removed and never replaced. • I attempted to call the front desk multiple times, but no one ever answered. • The hair dryer is oddly stored in a closet with a very short and restrictive cord, making it awkward to use. • Lastly, be warned: if you open your curtains, neighboring rooms can see directly inside, offering little to no privacy. This stay felt frustrating and underwhelming, especially for the price point. I wish I stayed somewhere else.

The fortina was just the best, the staff on arrival were the best, informative, polite, courteous and couldn't do enough, the room was fabulous with an amazing view across the harbour to Valletta, the food was amazing, if I was to have any negative points it would be for the hotel not to advertise that it has an out door pool....it doesn't, it has a very small share in an out door pool, that you have to book a slot at the day before. But when you get to the pool you are told which beds you can have, no sea views, all at the back etc. priority is given to people not staying at the hotel for a premium 50euros per lounger
