The host has gone to a lot of effort upgrading an old cottage into a quaint retreat. However some of the problems of an old property still exist (dirty window air conditioner, rickety front porch, broken window shades, some heating and shower control malfunctions) to the extent that we decided to leave a day early. There was some difficulty contacting the host but some of this seems to be the website Vrbo host contact setup(?). We feel that the host was sincere in his desire to provide a good service, but an accumulation of natural occurring and end-of-season wear and tear resulted in a less than perfect experience.
Like that it was a short drive to Lancaster which has quaint little shops and local town restaurants. The Cooper Marsh is a short drive away; it has nice walking trails.
The cottage is across the street from the St Lawrence river but there was no direct access to water nearby for swimming or soaking feet within walking distance.
