St. Augustine house 22 Bernard StreetI must write a poem and do it todaySitting on the couch what do I seeOn the stucco ceiling is a cooling fan But the room’s ART Work appears more boldlyPerhaps not boldly, but discoverableSome items truly are an unexpected surpriseNot noticed until sitting in a new placeDoes the beauty of the each piece ariseThe chandelier, the scones and mirror A Tiffany pole light can I spot in the cornerThen I see the curtains muted brown and beigeA matching braided cord keeping them in orderThe table and chairs have sculptured circlesDecorated wood, pleasing to the eyeReflecting infinite time of people visiting hereMeals shared, stories told, time that did fly byEven the light switch held a painted picture A lighthouse and water and clouds in the skyCouldn’t escape being noticed by anyoneWho turned a light on as they walked by A curio case with many treasures displayedAngels, vases, teapot, Dutch girl and fanRadio on small table with claw feet showingNext to the fireplace of marble black, beigie sand Stood a chest with an edge appearing like braided woodAn oriental lamp and a bird attached to a metal bowl on topSitting where I’m sitting, missing I definitely couldThe walls resemble a museum Paintings, sculptures, metals, Tiffanies abound The stories of their past they could tellIf only they could talk and had a soundFish and sea creatures on top of many cabinets I seeThe end is here and I am happy as can be.
