Summary:
Enjoy the tranquil surroundings and stylish interiors of this peaceful 2-storey Balmain East beauty, hidden just off Sydney Harbour. Relax on the comfy sofa in front of the fireplace with a good book or enjoy the many pubs, cafes, bakeries and boutiques, which are only moments away. Jump on a ferry at Balmain East Wharf and be in Sydney’s CBD in minutes.
The Space:
Designed for comfort and serenity, this freestanding cottage exudes style and meets all your home-away-from-home needs. Located in a quiet pocket of Sydney's most adorable heritage suburb, you’ll be excited to come home after a day of sightseeing or business.
Snuggle up on the comfy sofa by the gas fireplace as the sun streams in from your private leafy courtyard. Stream your favourite shows using your own account on Netflix, STAN, Amazon Prime etc, and enjoy access to Wi-Fi.
The fully self-contained kitchen features a Liebherr fridge and freezer, dishwasher, induction cooktop, oven, microwave, Lavazza coffee pod machine (with built-in Alexa), toaster and kettle, plus more than enough cookware, tableware and utensils for two guests.
The spacious upstairs bedroom features a king-sized bed, built-in robes and access to a large covered balcony, surrounded by treetops. On the balcony, curl up on a plush modular outdoor sofa and befriend the local kookaburras.
Enjoy walks around this historic Sydney Harbour-front suburb, such as the Tom Uren Trail. It’s only a short walk to Balmain East Wharf; from there, ferries will get you to Darling Harbour, Barangaroo or Circular Quay in only minutes. The 442 bus goes directly from Balmain East to the Queen Victoria Building in Sydney’s CBD, as well.
There is some unlimited, free street parking.
Whether you’re after a restful long weekend away or want to be close to the action in Sydney, you’ll find everything you need at this beautiful Balmain East cottage.
Guest Access:
This freestanding guesthouse in a garden setting is for your exclusive use. It’s on the same property as an historic main residence, ‘Duke's Cottage’, an 1840 renovated sandstone home. ‘Duke’s Cottage’ is one of the oldest homes on the Balmain Peninsula and is named after its first custodian, Captain Robert Duke, a whaler and entrepreneur.
Your cottage and the main house share a street entrance and garden path, and you’ll have your own secluded garden space.
The Neighborhood:
Balmain East is an historical pocket of Sydney that’s evolved into a stylish village enclave renowned for its pub, café and shopping culture. It feels like a country town yet is about 4km from the CBD. Its high street, Darling Street, boasts many restaurants, day spas and boutiques, continuing east to an uninterrupted view of Sydney Harbour and the city skyline.
Throughout the leafy Balmain peninsula, sandstone buildings and terrace houses dot the streets. Parks are scattered throughout, including large foreshore reserves such as Propeller Park, which is a 2-minute walk away. Balmain East Ferry Wharf provides easy access to the harbour and Sydney CBD.
Balmain East is home to many historic hotels, including the London Hotel and East Village Hotel Balmain, which is a 5-minute walk from your guesthouse. Nearby is The Fenwick, a fine-dining restaurant by the wharf in an 1880s sandstone building that was once a tugboat store. We recommend Euphoria for brunch or lunch, which is also ‘just up the road’.
We acknowledge that this land area traditionally belonged to the Gadigal and Wangal peoples of the Eora nation.
Getting Around:
Balmain East Ferry Wharf: 550 metres (7-min walk)
Balmain East Ferry Services:
F4 To Barangaroo (in only 6 minutes!) > Pyrmont Bay Wharf
F4 To McMahons Point Wharf > Milsons Point > Circular Quay
F3 To Circular Quay
F3 To Parramatta
Bus 442 City QVB to Balmain East Wharf (Loop Service): 2-min walk (alight on Darling Street)
GoGet Car Share: There is a pod located in a dedicated bay in the Gallimore Avenue car park, near Brett Avenue provided by Inner West Council and another located at 25 Union Street in the Union Street car park.
Other Things to Note:
This is a 2-storey private guesthouse with stairs.
The owners, a family of four, live in the main residence and have a standard poodle, Harry. Harry can’t access the main front garden unsupervised and can’t access your accommodation. He may bark from time to time from inside the main house but is very friendly. If you bump into Harry during one of his daily walks, feel free to give him a pat!
-Mandatory fortnightly clean including sheet change for bookings 14 days plus of AUD$250
-Additional exit clean fee for bookings over 2 months of AUD$300
-Accidental lock out fee, loss of keys or failure to return keys at exit as per self-check out information incurs a fee of $175.
